"Artist Recommendation - ANTIKS"

I must admit, that when it comes to the Hip-Hop scene in Ottawa, I am clueless. However I received a nice introduction a couple of weeks ago, by way of the ANTIKS.

Here’s the thing…

They contacted me and sent me a link to their free mixtape. I followed the link and quickly skipped through a few songs to check out their stuff, thinking it sounded decent. I put it on my iPhone the next day for a more thorough listen.

The verdict? I LOVE it! I haven’t stopped listening to it since. It is a collection of great beats, interesting mixes and catchy rhythms. I love the old school vibe to the whole thing. I can see where it comes from with influences like ODB and Slick Rick. I want to hear more from the duo and I’d love to catch a live performance.

To this point I can’t get enough of 2 Minute Drill. Also make sure to check out The Only One and Ballin’ on a Budget. But don’t stop there! Treat your ears to the whole thing. They’ll thank you for it.

As for those live performances? Things are in the works. I’ll keep you posted.

What are you waiting for? Weekends are always more fun with a little ANTIKS

ANTIKS are an alternative hip-hop group consisting of MC’s Lex and Jayem, guitarist Ryan 'Frodo' Farrell, bassist Ryan Cahill and drummer Derek Hillier. Formed in 2011, the group's music has been described as a mashup of some of their biggest influences, including: Beastie Boys, M.O.P, MF DOOM, Rage Against the Machine and ODB.

Lex and Jayem brought ANTIKS onto the scene via their debut record Here’s the Thing (2012); which includes collaborations with Dynamite Motel, Samantha Chan and Young Legacy (Zoo Legacy). The boys have since added the final pieces of the band (Farrell, Cahill and Hillier) to better represent the various genres of music that have influenced them over the years.

The band's 'not quite rap and not quite rock' brand is a fresh sound for those looking for some energetic, catchy, arena style, 90s influenced music. So far ANTIKS have been well recieved, having had songs played on Canadian college radio stations and through the various live shows they've played.

The group is currently working on a follow up record which they plan on releasing in the Winter/Spring of 2013.
