Bio

Press release

“Interterrestrial music” was born with the duet of composers Richard Monségu and Sébastien Tron, at the end of 2005.

Before the release of their first album, the duet was spotted by the region Rhône-Alpes at the “Tremplin des musiques du monde” (“Springboard for world music”) in Lyons auditorium and at the “Région en scène” (“Region on stage”). At the crossroads of multiple musical aesthetics, professional recognition has kept growing with, for instance, national selection for the “Chaînon manquant” network (FNTAV-2006), for the discovery in the song category of the Printemps de Bourges and the FNAC (2007) or for Planète musique (FAMDT-2008). A complete “Unidentified World Object” on the scene of current music!

After more than 120 concerts in France and abroad (Mexico, Austria, Portugal, Switzerland…), the duet comes back as a quartet in January 2011 for a national tour with their new album, Cosmographes. Worldwide popular filiations and humanist creations nourish this musical “interterrestrial” epic of fraternity. Twenty concerts are already planned in Paris (Les Déchargeurs).

Editorial

Human mind is infinite, capable of the best as well as the worst!
Like Alexandre Koyré, I am convinced of its unity, especially in its highest forms.
Indeed, in all times, the artistic, scientific and philosophical works have allowed human beings and society to free themselves a little from the invisible chains of a voluntary servitude and have kept pushing back the boundaries of dispossession.

In History, every society produces rebirths.
In such heroic times, inventive and pugnacious individuals
devote their lives to the gathering, the production, the explanation or the protection of the decisive advances of the Humanities.
These ways of being, of behaving, use the vehicle of imagination and invention in duration, so as to propose another understanding of the world.
We have to make ourselves their heirs.

But nowadays, this necessary and vigorous imagination is in danger.

So I told myself that the figure of the “Cosmographes” (the Cosmographers - these universal, fantastic, fraternal, inquiring-minded, attentive beings who totalize knowledge and emotions)
was more than likely to encourage us to reappropriate the beautiful things, the essential things.
The ones that elevate us and give us the hope of being true individuals.
The ones that allow us to believe that the personal and the collective chaos of nowadays is not eternal.

So this is, in music and in pictures, the story of these thoughts.
Polyglot and glowing thoughts, full of certainties and doubts.
In them, you will discover ages when religions, philosophies,
arts and sciences were mixed together or cursed each other.
You will travel through the cultures of Europe, of the Mediterranean, of the East and of Asia on the path of discovering the popular scientists who attempted, in spite of everyone,
to make clearer a world won by confusion and anxiety.

Music of fiction

“Gluon”, epic song

Every language has its own identifiable properties of sound : mouth sounds, nose and throat sounds. When Richard Monségu sings, he doesn’t use lyrics.
But because he uses the phonemes of existing languages - forgotten or ephemeral -
his interpretation gives the illusion of a real language.
The languages of the ones – travellers, adventurers, merchants and explorers – who are from the polyglot great urban centers of yesterday and of nowadays.

Pregnant with the emotion of the humanistic epics, his voice sings the trouble and the exaltation of heroic times.

We can hear the inspiration from Stevie Wonder, Pedro Aznar, Joni Mitchell, David Bowie or from unknown singers from the Latin, Arab, Persian or African worlds in the sensitive fervor of his tone.

The electro hurdy-gurdy, a polymorphous world

The hurdy-gurdy is very little known or underrated outside a realm of connoisseurs.
