Bio
A child of his town.
About 250 kilometers above the Arctic Cirle you find Kiruna - Swedens largest city, area-wise. Still, it's only the home of about 23.000 people. That's a lot of space for each person.
Somehow that's not something you spend a lot of time thinking about. That's just the way it is, has always been and will always be. That the entire town is about to be moved a few kilometers is no big deal either. It's simply the reality of living in a mining town. You find something new and life goes on.
Anton Björkenvall. The man with the bleeding americana heart. A child of his town. A town where you work beneath the surface of the earth, 3000 feet down, alone, every day. Where you have to be prepared to face falling snow on a night in June, as the children are getting ready to dance around the pole on Midsummer's Eve. And every winter, the barren months of polar darkness awaits. Should the sun wearily glance above the horizon, say for five minutes at noon on a tuesday in january, then don't expect anything else than -35*C outside the front door.
This matters. The town and the music. Right, left hand. Or as he says himself:
- My songs would be completely different if I hadn't lived here. Of course you're influenced by your surroundings. Perhaps more in Kiruna than elsewhere.
The north of Sweden is in many ways like southern America. Opposites in climate, but homes of the same people, the same workers' culture. The land is vast and not a word is wasted.
Anton's music soars across the Atlantic Sea, gets reflected back to Kiruna and lands right in your heart.
