Bio
Antonio Castrignan, musician from Salento (south of Italy), voice and drum of La Notte della Taranta, has played and collaborated with a lot of artists such as Stewart Copeland, Mauro Pagani , Giuliano Sangiorgi, Negroamaro , The Chieftains , Goran Bregovic , Ballak Sissoko , Ludovico Einaudi, Marcan Dede ....
Performing on stages of great international festivals over the years he has become one of the iconic characters of the rediscovery of the musical tradition of Salento.
Composer of the soundtrack of the film Nuovomondo by Emanuele Crialese, Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival in Venice 2006 , winner of numerous awards and was nominated for the Silver Ribbon and Ciak d' Oro 2007.
His compositions are also present in the film Bellas Mariposas by Salvatore Mereu , winner of the Quality Screens and FEDIC Prize at the Venice Film Festival in Venice 2012.
For geographic and demographic reasons, Antonio Castrignan joined the rediscovery of the phenomenon of Salento folk music as a teenager.
With attention to the styles of the past and the curiosity of those who want to experience contemporary challenges, Antonio exploits the expressive tension that moves between these two directives to build a repertoire of all staff, often characterized by autographic compositions.
Fomenta, his new recording project, is another turning point in his already eclectic artistic proposal, being involved in raids electronic matured with the turkish dj and producer Mercan Dede: the traditional Pizzica Taranta is regenerated and inspired by the sounds of contemporary.
