"Runnin- Anya Kvitka"

October 29, 2011
ANYA KVITKA – RUNNIN’

Sometimes folks ask us how they can get a video on our channel, or how they could be on Knocksteady Live. While most self-promotion annoys the shit out of me, my ears perked up when San Jose native Anya Kvitka hit us up about doing a song. I think she’s really onto something. Anya represents the first person we’ve had perform that we found out about from a Tweet to us. ”Runnin” has been stuck in all of our heads for the last couple days, and I have a feeling it’ll have the same effect on you.

"Women Making History: Anya Kvitka"

Moscow-born vocalist Anya Kvitka moved to the US at age six. A dedicated student of piano from an early age, she soon realized that she also had a talent for singing. Her R&B-tinged, vintage-jazz vocals evoke comparisons to Adele and Amy Winehouse. She has been making a name for herself collaborating with other artists in all genres from hip-hop to jazz; her first solo album (due this year) brings in elements of electronic and dubstep. New single “Gone Baby Gone” had it’s radio premiere on Live 105-San Francisco last week, when M.I.S.S. got a chance to ask her about her inspirations, challenges, and ambitions: - Miss Omni Media

"Anya Kvitka"

BORN IN Russia and now operating out of San Jose, Anya Kvitka is best known as part of the Soapbox Melodics crew, who created their own uniquely elegant style mixing hip-hop, down-tempo and soul with vintage jazz and an experimental edge. Now she's working on a solo album, going more in a dubstep and electronic direction, and backed by a band. But it seems like Kvitka can sing anything, including an acoustic version of Amy Winehouse's "You Know I'm No Good" that's as haunting and brutal as the original. She's joined at this South First Billiards pre-party for San Jose Made's big weekend by Opski Chan and Vida Killz; she also performs Sat. 4-6pm at the main event at San Pedro Square. - Silicon Valley Metro
