"Show Review"

The Klinic
Nov, 20th

You always go into a hardcore show with reservations. So many young bands feel that they do great with this genre when in reality they just make a bunch of noise that usually offends my better senses.
No so with Anyonebutyou.
I am thinking maybe their MP3's on the site did not transfer well, because as with others before them....the live show showed me a different sound. As young as this band is, you would not expect the talent. Not the talent of playing their instruments, which trust me...they do well, but rather their ability to write well structured music. Not noise...music. They, I am sure, appeal to the masses of the youth who are too young to get in the venues to see them. All ages shows are the ticket for these guys at the present time, but in the right environment they would also appeal to the old time hardcore fans. These guys are not reinventing the sound of hardcore...but they are certainly tapped into the better end of the genre.
Drums.....Holy crap! Love the sound of double kicks? Me too! Yeah....this is the sound that is required...the sound that got me moving...made me want to jump like I was still 19.
Guitars.....driving, driving, driving.....again, not noise. Great structure...obviously played with a love for what they are creating. Precision and coordination stood out....very talented.
Bass....WOW....may I say again...WOW!....I have seen seasoned bass players without a fraction of the ability. How important is the bass in a hardcore band? I can not begin to express how much so. Without it you have shit. Nice work...very nice work. I love the bass when it is done right. It can bore the hell out of me or it can make me stand up and pay attention. I stood up and paid attention.
Vocals....Songs of a young mind in general are shallow. Not so with Anyonebutyou. The vocals are definitely that of the hardcore world, which we all know requires a lot of yelling. It was great....except the vocal levels were way too low. That would be the fault of the guy running the in house sound...I wish I could have heard them better to get more of a concept of his talents. What I could hear fell in line with the music, but I really cannot give an honest opinion here....maybe the next time I catch them it will come through better.
Screamer....Yeah, this boy can deliver. Strength, stamina, energy, insanity, depth, etc.....Hell yeah he delivered.
Stage presence....I am always a critic of stage presence. If you don't have it, get f&*$ off the stage...you bore me.
Anyonebutyou is anything but boring. Moves and energy flowing all over the stage. Have I mentioned that I like energy? Well I do, and Anyonebutyou delivered.
Thanks for a great show guys! The hospitality was second to none and the cd has a place in my rotation.
