"Point:Counterpoint Review"

Anyone’s Guess formed in 2006 after many failed attempts with other bands. The four members of Anyone’s Guess all came together with different musical tastes so they were uncertain of what kind of music the four of them would produce. To accommodate all the different directions the band wanted to go, they released their debut album Point: Counterpoint in June of 2008 which is a two disc set containing 10 songs each with corresponding titles. The first half of the album is titled Point featuring the band’s more aggressive and harder rock songs. The songs on this disc are all told from the perspective of one person. Counterpoint, the second half, is told from the other person’s point of view through softer, acoustic songs.

Through this double sided lens, Sanja Jovanovic constructs a thoughtful and emotional compilation of songs. Jovanovic, who writes all of the songs and sings lead, grew up in Serbia until she was 16 years old. Serbia isn’t the most gay-friendly Country in the world, and Jovanovic knows that first hand. In 2001, Serbia had its first gay pride march that turned into a fight for survival rather than a celebration of sexuality when a group of Serbian nationalists attacked gays, lesbians and allies. Jovanovic was careful not to use pro-nouns in her songs which could out her as a lesbian and bring harassment and discrimination against her. Instead she frames her songs as if she is singing directly to the person she is writing about. On the song “For You” on Point, she sings “I love your lips your skin and hands” about her first female love. Jovanovic explains that “people found out about our ‘choice’ of lifestyle and brainwashed her away from me”. The Counterpoint of “For You” tells the other side of the romance with Jovanovic’s harmonizing vocals alongside a single acoustic guitar.

Point: Counterpoint is such a diverse album that there’s a song on it for anyone, no matter what mood they are in. Pop in disc one if you need to get pumped up with energy or pop in disc two if you are looking for something much softer.

"Point:Counterpoint"

Anyone's Guess is a four piece, female fronted rock/alternative band from Orlando, officially formed in November 2006. Their debut CD is a double-album of half-acoustic and half-electric selections called Point:Counterpoint. It includes 20 dark, ear intriguing tracks emerging from a tasteful mixture of influences including 30 Seconds To Mars, Alanis Morrisette, The Cranberries and The Police. The electric music of Point: unveils powerful melodies venting a very blunt angle lyrically. Counterpoint is an acoustic alternate with different arrangements and a lyrical contrast. - Connections Magazine by Chrissy V -June 2008

"Review"

Raw, emotional rock.

That's what I thought when I first heard Anyone's Guess. "I Call You" was the first track from the band that I played on my show, and it was an immediate favourite with my listeners... and me! The amazing combination of melodic guitar and smooth vocals that leads in to solid beats and amazing harmonies that never fails to grab me.

When I received their album, I thought that nothing could equal "I Call You"... I couldn't have been more wrong. All of the songs on Point held the same intensity, regardless of their pace... all of the songs on Counterpoint held their emotion, with the acoustic element only serving to heighten the impact. Every song on the album tells a story... a story that makes you want to listen.

I cannot wait to see what Anyone's Guess are going to come up with next.

Discography

Cost of Silence EP - rel. September, 2010

Point:Counterpoint - rel. June 2008. Despite the unfavorable opinion from a big name in the music industry, Anyone's Guess dared to do something that no-one has ever done before: They released a double CD with one disc featuring the aggressive, electric point of view of each story told; the other disc, fully acoustic, holds the musically and lyrically alternate point of view of the same story. A truly unique concept and that has been well received in the music community.

Anyone's Guess songs are regularly played on the Podsafe network, at the bars and clubs around Orlando, Rollins College Radio and several internet-based radio stations. "I Call You" and an interview with Anyone's Guess has been featured on a Montenegro commercial radio station in February 2008.

Point:Leavin' is licensed non-exclusively to a 5-Line Powersports store in Eustis, FL.

Bio

The definition of their name is: ”to be of a questionable nature; something uncertain,” but Anyone’s Guess falls far from those words. This daring, female-fronted and emotionally charged alternative band knows exactly what they want and how to get it.

The band formed in late 2006 and through hard work and dynamic show schedule, they have established themselves as one of the better-known bands in Central Florida. Selling out a 300 capacity venue for their debut CD release party in 2008 was just the start of all great things that would happen in relation to their double-disc, 24 song release titled “Point: Counterpoint.” Their single “I Call You” got internet and college radio play in the US and abroad and its acoustic counterpart “Leavin’” landed them a licensing contract with Synchup in late 2008. With favorable opinions from Martin Atkins (Invisible Records) and coaching support of Christine Wisner (Fueled by Ramen, Disney Records, Atlantic Records), the four know that the only way to fail in their conquests is quitting, which is a banned word in their vocabulary. Just like the rest of their work, the band’s eccentric ways are taking over their new release “Cost of Silence” (available now). “It’s going to be much different than what you’re used to. It’s a movement, not just a piece of plastic that will be forgotten after a few months,” says Sanja, the lead singer.

Anyone's Guess holds the rights to all the music and words displayed on their Sonicbids EPK page.
