Any Takers

Originally starting out as the senior project for frontman Drew Carroll, Any Takers is a band with promise. In the beginning, the band would get together in the Spring of 2009 every Friday to learn a new song, then reconvene the following Sunday to record the track. The band is comprised entirely of Tallahassee townies, who stuck around for Music Degrees at Florida State University. Miles Bozeman is an accomplished Jazz drummer who plays around town constantly, Will Chase is a classically guitarist as well as a celebrated bassist, and Thomas Bowers when he's not playing in the band builds harpsichords. What resulted from this eclectic group was the sarcastic, blunt, and heartfelt full-length Bright Seniors. The songs are inspired by (among other things) the end of innocence, the Florida Panhandle weather and the movies Wall Street and Bachelor Party. On the single "Right," Carroll sings the refrain "Come Take me, I'm already yours" from the point of view someone who was kidnapped, and longs to be abducted again. With the song "Excitable Thur Redd" he humanizes the lonely Craigslist casual encounter user, and has him dodging the truth when friends and family ask where he met the girl. The record is raw, contains minimal overdubs and showcases exactly what Any Takers is- a band with a lot of heart.
