Aoife Moriarty

Aoife Moriarty

BandAlternativePop

Bittersweet gutsy pop with biting lyrics and bitching breakdowns. This supertight five piece made their debut in on the 29th February 2008 after eight weeks of gruelling rehearsals. Aoife Moriarty’s crafty cuts sooth and rouse the hardest of hearts.

Biography

Aoife Moriarty’s suburban childhood was spent in the competitive company of artists, inventors, scientists and musicians. In this environment she began to write songs at the age of eight. She graduated in 1998 and worked part time while honing in on her guitar playing and songwriting. She attended workshops in Louisville, Kentucky, formally trained on piano and her first gig was in the famous Bluebird Café in Nashville.

Following a knee-jerk career break in 2006, Aoife gathered up all her home demos and brought them to acclaimed producers Chris O’Brien and Graham Murphy of the Production Suite. An Ep was recorded, a band gathered and her debut album “Dolls & Jigsaws” was finally realized.

Aoife has gone through various musical phases but is consistent in her love of well-crafted rock/folk/pop songs that stand the test of time. She cites Steely Dan, Leonard Bernstein, Neil Young and early Madonna as lasting influences. If you would like to hear Suzanne Vega singing Blossom Dearie’s repertoire backed by Blondie’s band, then this music is for you.

Alphabet Soup

ALPHABET SOUP

V 1
Women and men at the table
Hungry words are unstable
They will disect their own fable
Back to front out of the loop
Into their Alphabet Soup x 4

V2
Constanants stabbed with a pitchfork
Scrabble played without vowels
A black jigsaw to sort out
The highest brow will fall and droop
Into his alphabet soup x 4

Bridge 1
Never going to cook again
Going to eat every day out of a tin
Have speed diall to pizza fields
Then drive thru to McDonalds
You always have more, you never have less
You fill your guts with happiness
U’ve just pickled up your words
A full mouth just looks absurd

V3
Conversation controled with a word count
A timer on the vowels and the I’s
Punctuation marks are a blackout
The letters hit between the eyes
When its Alphabet Soup x 4

Bridge 2
No, I’m never going to eat again
Inject myself with neurophen
Come to stay
Come to see
But serve no pity up for me
You have so much, you never have less
Fill your guts with happiness
(Fill your guts with happiness)
Feed me with your alphabet But don’t use letters you’ll regret
Feed me with your alphabet But don’t use letters you’ll regret

Moving On

MOVING ON

Won’t neglect you cause I need you
There’s trouble going down
Its making me so needy
For a man who loves me strong
Wanton in your absence
Your pleasure is my due
This endless empty hunger
Leaves me craving you

Chorus
Moving On x 8

Sinking recognition
Creeping apathy
Toxic inhibition
Won’t let it get to me
Want to stick together
But the glue is getting dry
So kiss me with intention
And free me from this lie

Chorus
Moving on x 8
Moving on x 8

Bridge
It turns my aching heart to stone
To live beside you baby
But still feel so alone

Chorus x 2

You never dance
Am……………………F…………..E7……..
You were scared of my love

Verse 2
You consumed me with your presence like a malignant gas
I could only think of you
And your exit had the haste of a nervous cat,
Would I have harmed you for saying goodbye?

Chorus

Don’t say you’re moved and flattered, to cover how you’ve been
F……………..G…………………….E7……………..
