Apartment 61

Apartment 61 is located in Portland, Oregon. We are an experimental folk music duo... as of now. But Apartment 61 is forever mutating. At the core of this project are Robert Boylan and Kali Ackerman; two young transplants from Huntington, New York..
Robert Boylan is a relatively unknown songwriter, previously one half of Prajna Paramita. Kali Ackerman has been playing violin, singing and making strange noises for as long as anyone can remember.
The two parts got together in early 2005, back in New York. By October, we were in the northwest, recording new music.
Acoustic guitars, basic percussion and/or electronic drum loops, lush vocal layering, and random objects are incorporated into sweet and simple pop music. The lyrical themes here are sometimes bleak, and sometimes brilliantly hopeful. Sometimes stark, sometimes life affirming. The words are products of the self-defeating, self-conscious reality that is America:2006.
Song structures, the lines between verse and chorus... they are usually blurred, leaving the listener confused and tranquil at the same time.
This is music for quiet contemplation. Maybe a rebel anthem, maybe a lullaby, maybe a self-obsessed journey into sociology... genuine music for most occasions.
