Bio

The musical project “APERITO” was conceived in April 2010 by Lina Palera and Danis Koumartzis, the main objective being to mix the rich musical heritage of Latin America with elements of Greek music. Initially they began writing songs using Greek lyrics and Bossa Nova sensibilities, striving to have simple, transparent orchestrations using only acoustic instruments.

In December 2010 their first CD entitled “The Green Album” was released in cooperation with iRec Music Productions. The CD contains eight original compositions in which the listener can distinguish the sounds of Brazil as well as positive, romantic and even at times critical lyrics. This project was premiered at the 2011 Spring Arts Festival at the Vafopouleio Cultural Center in Thessaloniki to much positive acclaim from the audience as well as radio producers. Since then they have participated in many festivals in Greece and abroad, highlighted by their appearance at the PaLab Festival in Palermo, Sicily in March 2012 where they shared the stage with Sicilian acoustic reggae band Familia del Sud. Also, they recenty participated as invited artists to the “FERRARA BUSKERS FESTIVAL 2012” with great success.

APERITO began as a trio comprised of Lina Palera (classical guitar, vocals), Danis Koumartzis (upright bass, vocals) and Timothy Hill (percussion, trumpet, vocals). As a trio they performed together over 150 times in the period 2010-2011. Since the summer of 2011, pianist Filippos Kostavelis was added to the band and as a quartet they worked with composer and radio producer Paris Paraschopoulos and vocalist Dimitris Nikoloudis to perform various Greek poets’ work set to Paraschopoulos’ music. Titled “Traces of Love’s Anarchy,” this music was premiered at the Ancient Roman Agora in Thessaloniki, surprising the audience with its musical uniqueness as well as the harshness of its lyrics.

Presently APERITO find themselves in a very productive stage as they record their second studio album which will be released by the end of the year, and as they plan festival appearances to present their music. Also, in conjunction with P.Paraschopoulos, they are recording a song cycle drawing on the work of poet Stauros Zafeiriou.
