Bio

APhillyated (AP) was formed in January 2004 by Philadelphia natives Michael Wallace Berger (The Rapscallion (RS), Luke Smith (Intelloquent (IQ), Aly Mifa Solot, and Christopher Wiederman (The Cook), who is featured on select songs. The first group effort, “Shittin’ On The Government”, was recorded in March of 2004. “Shittin’,” featured the soulfully angelic vocals of Aly Mifa Solot on the chorus and the exuberant politically charged raps of The Rapscallion and his childhood best friend Intelloquent. The song won second place in the Philadelphia Songwriter’s Project’s Political Songs Contest, which was inspired by the 2004 Presidential Election. Although they did not win the grand prize of free studio time, the track earned AP an invitation to perform at the Philly Songwriter’s Project November 2004 local artist showcase where they shared the stage with the internationally acclaimed Ursula Rucker and other local favorites including Mutlu. APhillyated had arrived.
As of January 2007, in addition to hours of recorded freestyles, APhillyated boasts a diverse song catalog which addresses an array of issues including domestic violence, divorce, state corruption, the systemic oppression of minorities and the perpetual cycle of poverty it creates, the criminal justice system, and of course three defining aspects of their generation: love, partying, and the struggle to sustain by any means. At the core of the rising APhillyated Empire is their extensive formal musical and academic training, witty and sophisticated lyrical attacks, street and academic intelligence, and acute awareness of domestic and international affairs. All of these elements can be heard as they strive to expose the harsh realities and grave social injustices of the modern world. APhillyated stands poised to make a serious dent in the status quo of the music industry and the world abroad.
