"Joe Ross Review in Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine"

"We know the Appalachian Trail generally runs in a North/South direction, however I expect this CD will bring
many invitations to perform in the direction of all points on the compass as they continue to build a legion of fans." - Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine

"Appalachian Trail - Always On a Mountain"

APPALACHIAN TRAIL—ALWAYS ON A MOUNTAIN—No Label, No Number. This is a pretty good band from East Tennessee featuring Vickie Austin (bass), Tommy Austin (mandolin), and Allen Hughes (guitar). Founding member Tim Laughlin (fiddle) returns for this project and former member Matthew Cruby (banjo) returns as well. Both Laughlin and Cruby are with other groups and sit in when their schedules allow. Also appearing is guest Becky Buller (fiddle). The project is a mix of familiar covers and some really nice originals from the Austins. Folks will recognize Sid Campbell’s “This Morning At Nine” and “Last Night I Dreamed,” and there is a nice version of Gordon Lightfoot’s “Song For A Winter’s Night.” Originals include “Country Road,” “The Master’s Plan,” “Katrina,” “Runnin Blind,” and “Angels Watching Me.” The band is very good instrumentally and the vocal harmonies are tight, especially on the Chuck Howard title-cut “Always On A Mountain.” Look for this group to gain a larger appeal. Still working on that hot first release.

Feeling a bit camera shy

Appalachian Trail was formed around 1984. Original members Linda Lay and Carson Cooper were traveling to their first show and did not have a name for the band when they saw a sign that read 'Appalachian Trail' and decided on that until they thought of something better but the name has lasted and fitting it is... 30 years later, the band is still burning new trails in the bluegrass arena. This band helped cultivate the careers of the likes of Adam Steffey, John Bowman, Becky Buller and countless others.
