"Apps in AP"

Unsigned Band of the month
HQ: Austin, TX
NOW PLAYING: The Applicators EP (theapplicatorsrock.com)

THE STORY SO FAR: So new that she still had her civilian surname when this issue of AP went to print, drummer Terri Lord (ex-Sincola) is just the latest top-tier addition to this five-year-old band of classic-punk superstars-in-waiting. Lord's bandmates, Sabrina Applicator (vocals), Erica Applicator (guitar/vocals), Kristina Applicator (bass) and Cookie Applicator (guitar), have already made some friends in high places, having recorded their 2001 full-length, What's Your Excuse, with Bad Religion guitarist Greg Hetson. The goal this year? "Tour, tour, tour," says Erica. "Music is what we live for the goal is to rock as many people as possible!"

WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: We thought we were just having fun with Erica when we gave her 30 seconds to convince AP why 2006 is gonna be the year the Applicators take over. Shows what we know: "Thirty seconds, eh? Easy: How 'bout we handcuff you to a chair and sock your rocks off?" (Gulp.) Though a scheduled Wasted USA appearance this October fell through when the festival was canceled, the band wasted no time jetting off this month for a tour of Germany and Italy, after which they'll celebrate their return home by releasing the follow-up to Excuse. -Nora Eassburg - Alternative Press

Bio

While attending high school, the ladies who make up the punk-pop sound of THE APPLICATORS weren't exactly concerned with going to the prom or dating the star quarterback. Instead, THE APPLICATORS played instruments and worshiped the likes of the Cramps, Motörhead, the Breeders, and the Jam.

Each had saved every penny to buy her own equipment, but it wasn't until early 1999 that the fearsome foursome would connect and form THE APPLICATORS in their native Austin, TX. Over the next few years, the Applicators honed a wicked pop sound, sharing dates with the Teen Idols, Fear, and their heroes, Bad Religion. Bad Religion/Circle Jerks guitarist Greg Hetson caught one of these shows and liked the band's raw appeal. He went on to produce THE APPLICATORS' debut album, What's Your Excuse.

Fast Forward to 2006 and get hooked on THE APPLICATORS' latest batch of snarling pop narcotic. Going for the throat of rock n' roll and keeping alive the spirit of EIY 'Earn It Yourself', THE APPLICATORS release their sophomore effort My Weapon. My Weapon continues the tightrope walk between sex appeal, fun, chaos and infectious beats.
