Bio
Special education teacher by day, and vocalist by night, vocal powerhouse April Stanford does not desire to be limited by any one genre of music. She’s worked with artists and producers in gospel, r&b, pop, hip hop, reggae and even soca. April aims to capture the essence of emotion, translated in a way that only music can while fusing sounds and styles from genres that have touched her soul over the years.
Having always been drawn to artists with soul, April’s musical influences linger in the genre of soul, neo-soul, and R&B. Including a range of artists from the old school to the new, some of April’s musical influences are Faith Evans, Chaka Khan, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Elle Varner, Janelle Monae, Anita Baker, Patti Labelle, Diana Ross, Lauryn Hill, Aretha Franklin, Amel Larrieux, Beyonce, Chrisette Michele, Marsha Ambrosius, and Ledisi…just to name a few. At Sol Village in New York City’s S.O.B.s, April was blessed with the opportunity to do an impov solo with neo-soul’s own Eric Roberson. She has also been very humbled to open up for such artists as Dru Hill, Doug E. Fresh, and Brand Nubian and R&B sensation, Mario.
