Bright White Jackets

Written By: April Smith

They’ve called the doctors
Today’s the day
I’ve lost it finally
And they’re putting me away

I’m sure I won’t be quite the same
So before I go
I wanted,
Oh I wanted you to know

That a million men in their bright white jackets
Could never erase you from my mind
But when they bring me back to you
And tell you that I’m shiny new
The girl that you see may not be me
Behind theses eyes anymore

I’ve never loved another
As I’ve loved you and do still
But I wonder when they’re through with me
I wonder if I will

So remember things I’ve said to you
And say them back to me
And maybe you can rescue me
From lunacy

And let million men in their bright white jackets
Just try to erase you from my mind
But when they bring me back to you
And tell you that I’m shiny new
The girl that you see may not be me
Behind theses eyes anymore

They’re making me, They’re making me
Take these awful pills
Assuring me they’re curing me of all my evil ills
They say they’re saving me, they’re saving me
So they’ll have me think
I was fine before they got to me
But now I’m on the brink of utter madness

They’ve called the doctors
Today’s the day
I’ve lost it finally
And they’re putting me away

They tried to steal my thoughts
And all my memories of you
But I clung tight to them
Because I always knew…..

That a million men in their bright white jackets
Could never erase you from my mind
But when they bring me back to you
And tell you that I’m shiny new
The girl that you see may not be me
Behind theses eyes anymore

Wow and Flutter

i could take a great big bite out of you
when i get my cake i like to eat i like to eat it too
and can i help myself if i find you simply delicious?

now i'm like the big the big, bad wolf at your door
my mouth is wide open, ready to explore
and i'm not hiding the fact that i'm out for blood
baby, i'm vicious

don't hate a girl because she knows
all the ways to get beneath your clothes
cause you played those games, down to the letter
you're just mad cause i play them better

i need to get my sound
so i'm gonna lay you down
i'm gonna spin you around
and play you like a record

i could take a great big bite out of you
when i get my cake i like to eat i like to eat it too
and can i help myself if i find you simply delicious?

now i'm like the big the big, bad wolf at your door
my mouth is wide open, ready to explore
and i'm not hiding the fact that i'm out for blood
baby, i'm vicious

don't hate a girl because she knows
all the ways to get beneath your clothes
cause you played those games, down to the letter
you're just mad cause i play them better

i need to get my sound
so i'm gonna lay you down
i'm gonna spin you around
and play you like a record

i need to get my sound
and i need to get it now
i'm gonna spin you around
and play you like a record

you're spinning me right around,
baby you're spinning me right around,
and round and round
you're spinning me right around,
baby you're spinning me right around,
and round and round
you're spinning me right around,
baby you're spinning me right round,
and round and round
you're spinning me right around,
baby you're spinning me right around,
and round and round
but whose spinning who now?

i need to get my sound
so i'm gonna lay you down
i'm gonna spin you around
and play you like a record

i need to get my sound
and i need to get it now
i'm gonna spin you around
and play you like a record

Colors

Written By: April Smith

you've been far away from me
another land across the sea
all this time my heart's been breaking
just waiting round and aching

for a letter or a telegram
telling me how sweet i am
swear your hear will never roam
so til you come back home

i'll wear your colors my dear
until you're standing right here
next to the one who adores you
whose heart is beating for you
like a lighthouse guides a shipwrecked sailor safely from the sea
i'll wear your colors til you come back home to me

i'm hoping you return the glow
i'm just making sure you know
that no matter how, no matter when
you come back to me

you'll realize this love is strong
as it has been all along
for miles and miles can't come between
the kind of love we've seen

i'll wear your colors my dear
until you're standing right here
next to the one who adores you
whose heart is beating for you
like a lighthouse guides a shipwrecked sailor safely from the sea
i'll wear your colors til you come back home to me

i'll wear your colors my dear
until you're standing right here
next to the one who adores you
whose heart is beating for you
like a lighthouse guides a shipwrecked sailor safely from the sea
i'll wear your colors til you come back home to me

i'll wear you colors til you come back home to me

i'll wear you colors til you come back home to me

Beloved

Written By: April Smith

i know its over
my heart will never know another lover
we two shall never share another breath
my will has faded
this longing it's an unrelenting torture
oh mercy take me know to my beloved

you were the thrill that stilled my beating heart baby
you are the one i'll dream the most
but if i cannot have the real thing
i'll gladly settle for your ghost

and you can haunt these halls
all you want
and if i ever leave
i will take you with me

da da...

this thing that beats
is the one thing that keeps us apart
well they say to say goodbye
but id surely rather die
from my broken heart

you were the thrill
that stilled my beating heart baby
you are the one i'll dream the most
but if i cannot have the real thing
i'll gladly settle for you ghost
i'll gladly settle for you ghost

Movie Loves A Screen

Written By: April Smith

MOVIE LOVES A SCREEN

ONE MEANS SOMEBODY’S LONELY
COMPANY MEANS THERE ARE TWO
THREE MEANS A CROWD, AND IT’S ABOUT TO GET LOUD
AND FOUR MEANS MORE THAN A FEW

FIVE MEANS TO TAKE A QUICK LITTLE BREAK
AND GET BACK TO WORK WHEN YOU’RE THROUGH
I JUST WANT TO MEAN SOMETHING TO YOU

LIGHTNING MEANS THERE’LL BE THUNDER
SUN MEANS THE SKY’LL BE BLUE
WHEN THE LEAVES ARE FALLING IT MEANS THAT AUTUMN IS CALLING
AND THE SUMMER DAYS ARE THROUGH

SNOWFLAKES MEAN THAT IT’S WINTER
THE BIRDS’LL TELL YOU IT’S TRUE
I JUST WANT TO MEAN SOMETHING TO YOU

MAYBE WHAT I MEAN TO SAY
IS THAT I THINK ABOUT YOU IN THE MOST ROMANTIC OF WAYS
AND I’M HOPING YOU’LL BE OPEN TO DISCUSSING US AND NOTHING IN BETWEEN

MAYBE WHAT I MEAN IS THAT I LOVE YOU MORE THAN ANY OTHER I’VE SEEN
IF YOU COULDN’T TELL WELL I HOPE YOU’RE QUITE KEEN ON IT
LIKE A RHYME LOVES A SONNET
LIKE A MOVIE LOVES A SCREEN
THAT’S WHAT I WANNA MEAN TO YOU

LAUGHING MEANS THERE IS HAPPINESS
CRYING MEANS SOMEBODY’S BLUE
SCREAMING IMPLIES SOMEONE’S BEEN TELLING LIES
OR AN APOLOGY IS OVERDUE

A SMILE MEANS THINGS TURNED OUT ALRIGHT
DESPITE AN OVERSIGHT OR TWO
I JUST WANT TO MEAN SOMETHING TO YOU
I JUST WANT TO MEAN SOMETHING TO YOU

I JUST WANT TO MEAN SOMETHING TO YOU

I JUST WANT TO MEAN SOMETHING TO YOU

Songs For A Sinking Ship 2010

Set List

If anything, an April Smith performance - backed by her band, The Great Picture Show, - can always be detailed as fun but, in truth, fun doesn't really do her, or the rest of the band, justice. Blessed with a voice comprising both immeasurable strength and grace - coupled with songs laden with bold, exuberant lyrics - Smith transforms the rawness of a live show into something far greater. The Brooklyn-based songstress, influenced by such varied artists as The Beatles and Gene Pitney, possesses a burgeoning career in music and with talent like this she's bound for glory.
-Joel Crane (NME, Q, Mojo)
