"MUSIC VIDEO: APRYLL AILEEN PUTS A TWIST ON THE CLASSIC ‘WHAT ARE YOU DOING NEW YEAR’S EVE?’"

Apryll Aileen is putting her own spin on a Frank Loesser holiday classic, and it’s not “Baby It’s Cold Outside.” Instead, she’s thrown her hat into the ring against the likes of Nancy Wilson, Ella Fitzgerald and, more recently, Zooey Deschanel & Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and put together her own version of “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?”

In case you’ve not been following the progress of Aileen’s career, we’ve spotted a clear pattern: show up, do things. Her recent video for “Don’t Make Me Wait” similarly involved her travelling to California and accidentally putting together a music video on a day she was only supposed to perform a concert.

“What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?” came together a little bit less miraculously and much closer to home.

“[I] literally met the owner of this place on Thursday evening and then Saturday I decided to learn this cover song… And my brother was in town for the holidays. I got him to lay down the bass line, and then on Sunday I reached out to Filmmaker Tyler Warren Ellis, and Monday we filmed!” laughs Aileen. “At the Tanner’s Home Inn! It’s a beautiful inn in uptown Saint John.”

“I can hardly keep up with myself actually. I’ve been working my butt off just trying to get this done with enough lead time for people to enjoy for New Year’s Eve. We didn’t realize we were filming Christmas Eve until we showed up.”

Rather than performing the classic version we’re all very much familiar with, Aileen updated “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?” with a little message of her own.

“I chose this song in particular because it has a vintage vibe to it and a vulnerability that our music doesn’t really have these days. But most importantly, during this time of year heartbreak and rejection are magnified, and when it happens people feel lonelier than ever. I changed the lyrics at the end to be more empowering. Just because something doesn’t turn out how you expect or want it to, doesn’t mean you can’t find other things to be grateful for… such as enjoying the holidays with good friends and not making everything about romantic relationships.

Aileen adds a verse to the end of the song to enforce that sentiment: “And if you don’t want to make any plans, I’ve got my own so I understand. My friends are here on New Year’s Eve.”

“The song is about being vulnerable and asking someone what they’re doing with the hopes that just maybe they will spend arguably the most important night of the year with them. But if they don’t want to spend this incredible evening with you, don’t fret. Take your power back. Make your own plans with people who value you and want to celebrate with you.

It’s important to be vulnerable but also to be strong and stand in your own power and self worth. Loving someone is beautiful but if it’s not reciprocated, sometimes we feel broken. When that happens, it’s time to create your own story and realize that you were never broken to begin with. It was just a temporary feeling.”

"SINGLE: APRYLL AILEEN FINDS 80S INSPIRATIONS FOR ‘DON’T MAKE ME WAIT’ THROWBACK BALLAD"

Saint John’s snowbird and songstress Apryll Aileen’s newest single leans into the current trend of 80s throwbacks. Break out the shoulder pads and hairspray while “Don’t Make Me Wait” breaks out the gated reverb on this dance party.

Aileen, who says her early musical influences were founded upon 80s and 90s icons George Michael and Madonna, is joining the ranks of Canadian musicians who have decided that if it’s not broke, maybe try revisiting it once every couple decades or so. It’s worked well for the like of East Coast artists like Natalie Lynn who has worked with In Flight Safety’s John Mullane to produce her dancey singly “Company” and Ria Mae’s equally synth-laden “Bend.”

While Aileen independently arrived at the conclusion that it’s time to bring back a little more Duran Duran to our lives, it might be a sign of something that we’re all headed back there together. Perhaps it’s a longing for the relative innocence of the Reagan administration, or the fact that we were all, quite literally, drinking the Kool-Aid. The 80s may have been ridiculous, and I think we knew that even though, but to have existed in a time and place that afforded that ridiculousness was, in hindsight, a luxury. A little nostalgia is the least of the inevitabilities.

Written in Venice Beach, California by Perry Rod and Apryll Aileen and produced by Marty Rod, Aileen says that “Don’t Make Me Wait” is a song about love, and getting the timing right.

“This song is about the importance of being present and realizing that time isn’t infinite,” explains Aileen. “It’s about taking risks and not waiting to start that adventure with someone. I’m sure we’ve all been on the fence before with regards to jumping into love, wondering if we should go for it or not. This song is about being ready to take that chance and dive in with both feet.”

That description makes it sound like Aileen has fallen for someone and is ready to get serious, but we suspect she may have been referring to the piano…

“The day before Valentine’s Day, my friend Andrea invited me over to her friend Perry’s place, who I had never met. When I walked into his house, I was instantly drawn to the upright piano,” explains Aileen. “My heart is always so full of love in Venice Beach and this night was no exception. As soon as I sat down, I started writing the hook for the song.

Perry came over and started giving ideas and by the next day we had full song. Turns out his brother Marty, is a producer. We went into West LA and laid down the track and that’s how this song came to me – through serendipity and no expectations. That’s how love should be.”

Aileen says that though it started on the piano, that late 80s/90s vibe naturally blossomed from the song for some epic big-haired, big-shoulder pads, love-ballad throwback. Sounds like we’ve got a genuine trend.

Apryll Aileen is currently recording her second album, Home, which will be released in spring/summer 2019.

"Apryll Aileen | Don’t Make Me Wait: Exclusive Video Premiere!"

Love is where you find it. And Apryll Aileen finds it in sunny SoCal in her new video for the song Don’t Make Me Wait — premiering exclusively on Tinnitist!

The East Coast singer-songwriter takes a stroll along the Venice Beach boardwalk in this lighthearted clip for her new single co-written by Perry Rod and produced by his brother Marty Rod. With its upbeat mood and spontaneous vibe, the video reflects the creation of the song, which offers a modern-day blend of ’80s and ’90s sounds.

“The day before Valentine’s Day, my friend Andrea Tan invited me over to her friend Perry’s place, who I had never met,” recalls Aileen. “When I walked into his house, I was instantly drawn to the upright piano. My heart is always so full of love in Venice Beach and this night was no exception.

“As soon as I sat down, I started writing the hook for the song. Perry came over and started giving ideas and by the next day we had the full song. Turns out his brother Marty is a producer. We went into West L.A. and laid down the track and that’s how this song came to me — through serendipity and no expectations. That’s how love should be.

“This song is about the importance of being present and realizing that time isn’t infinite,” she continues. “It’s about taking risks and not waiting to start that adventure with someone. I’m sure we’ve all been on the fence before with regards to jumping into love, wondering if we should go for it or not. This song is about being ready to take that chance and dive in with both feet.”

Aileen fell in love with music in her teenage years when she traveled to the Ukraine for piano master classes. She realized music was a language that connected the world. When she writes songs, she thinks of the collective and voices what others feel but can’t express. With soulful vocals, hooky melodies and raw emotion, her songwriting is inspired by real life events. From pain, to finding inner strength through love, her songs take the listener on a journey through their own inner landscape of being.

Aileen transcends genres, creating her own undefinable sound with influences coming from pop, rock, blues and jazz. She doesn’t imitate — she creates. A hybrid of two polarities, she blends melodic songwriting and raspy vocal tones from modern artists such as Ellie Goulding and Halsey but performs with intensity, dynamic range and vocal gravel that Stevie Nicks and Janis Joplin would be proud of.

She spends the majority of her time performing and writing music between the quiet solitude of Atlantic Canada and the hustle and bustle of downtown Toronto. When she is not in either, she is usually found on the Venice Beach boardwalk, where her boho spirit and love for the sun and ocean collide.

Canadian alternative pop rock singer-songwriter, musician and multi-instrumentalist Apryll Aileen’s new single “Don’t Make Me Wait” — a modern day blend of the 80’s and 90’s pop in all the right ways — was worth just that.

“The day before Valentine’s Day, my friend Andrea invited me over to her friend Perry’s place, who I had never met,” says Aileen. “When I walked into his house, I was instantly drawn to the upright piano.”

Aileen is a classically trained pianist, among her many talents.
“My heart is always so full of love in Venice Beach and this night was no exception,” she continues. “As soon as I sat down, I started writing the hook for the song. Perry came over and started giving ideas and by the next day we had full song. Turns out his brother Marty, is a producer. “That’s how love should be.”

Then love-struck anthem features Aileen’s signature sultry vocals, captivating lyrics and alluring stage presence, as featured in “Don’t Make Me Wait”s accompanying video.

“I first fell in love with music in my teenage years when I traveled to the Ukraine for piano master classes. I realized music was a language that connected the world. When I write songs, I think of the collective voices that others feel but can’t express.”

“Don’t Make Me Wait” is no exception to her rule. With soulful vocals, hooky melodies and raw emotion, Aileen’s songwriting is inspired by real life events. “From pain to finding inner strength through love, my songs take the listener on a journey through their own inner landscape of being.”

She spends the majority of her time performing and writing music between the quiet solitude of Atlantic Canada and the hustle and bustle of downtown Toronto. "The Inside Scoop with Apryll Aileen"

The first time I had the opportunity to watch Apryll Aileen perform at
The Carleton Music Bar & Grill in Halifax, I left hoping there would
be a second time. She has always been gracious with her time with
me and I got to ask her a few questions.

Scott: Thanks Apryll for making some time for me to chat. First off
I want to say congratulations on winning Battle of the Arts NB. How
would you describe the whole experience of the competition?

Apryll: Always a pleasure Scott - I’m glad we have a few moments now
to get caught up. The competition was really cool - it showcased a lot
of diverse and unique talent we have across the province. The
organization that hosted it, is very professional and truly want to
showcase, empower and develop artists across all mediums. They even
had Mel from the radio station Capital FM 106.9 in Fredericton to emcee.

Scott: You literally got a big cheque, do you have any specific plans
for the winnings?

Apryll: Yes!!! I used this cheque to help go towards design and
duplication for my debut album “Savannah Soul”. It was a HUGE help for
me financially to win.

Scott: I have had the opportunity to see a couple of your shows here
in Halifax and each time you have left me even more impressed, your
voice is so distinct. But for those who haven't been able to
appreciate your live shows, how would you describe your music?

Apryll: The best way I can describe it is by using a self created term
“soulful pop”. I studied classical piano for many years so many of the
songs showcase that side, along with some jazzy elements. Also I
started teaching myself guitar this year which has led to some more
indie/blues style songs. The core elements however, are definitely the
lyrics, the melody and the vocals. Sometimes I sing in a deeper more
soulful style, and other times, in a more breathy/airy style. In the
words of my friend: Her stage show truly captivates the viewer and
makes them participants in the stories shared through her lyrical
content. Her smokey vocals exude an intensity that immediately engages
the listener and pulls them in.

Scott: Can you tell us a little about your journey since you decided
to pursue music full time?

Apryll: It has been an insane adventure full of serendipitous moments
and tests of faith. I’m extremely fortunate for the people I’ve been
able to work with at such a young age - especially this early on in my
musical career. The producer of “Savannah Soul” Kenny Munshaw has
worked with Justin Bieber and The Tenors!

I started out a couple years ago, not knowing how to set up any gear
or play a full hour set and now I can set myself up, run a 3 hour set
and perform on the fly with other artists. I’ve been able to travel to
Mexico to create a music video (we drove 10 hours across the country
from Mexico City to Puerta Vallarta), I’ve recorded in Savannah,
Georgia and Toronto, Ontario and also traveled to New York City to
meet Scott and Mickie from Masterdisk (the mastering engineer for the
album). It has been a journey! My music has even taken me to Venice
Beach, Santa Monica and West LA.

Scott: Leaving a steady job to pursue a dream can be a very tough
decision. How did you arrive at the final decision and what has it
allowed you to do?

Apryll: There have been times where I’ve questioned if this was the
right move but that was due to fear. Fear holds us back from going
after that which we truly love. From a young age, I dreamed of writing
and playing music but never saw the proper avenue to do so. It seemed
like an insane dream with little chance of coming true.

When I travelled to Dallas, Texas in February 2013 on the spur of a
whim, I met someone down there in the film industry who sent me the
script to “Dallas Buyer’s Club”. At this point, I realized that maybe
my passion and career was in the film world so I dived in head on. I
took every single acting, writing and directing shop imaginable,
worked on film sets and even scored acting gigs. It was through the
film road, that the music resurfaced.

When I read the script for Cayman Grant’s film “Butterflies”, I was
inspired to write “Butterflies”. She loved it and wanted to use it for
her film - she introduced me to Kenny Munshaw and from there, the
entire connection grew and “Savannah Soul” came into fruition.

Scott: With your first album in the homestretch before its release,
when you look back to the beginning, what have you learned about the
whole album making process and have there been any real surprises?
Apryll: The biggest surprise for me, was in the amount of work it
takes to not only arrange, write and record an album, but to fulfil
everything that happens when you leave the studio from mixing,
mastering to the final stages of legalities and duplication. I never
imaged it took so much work but I wouldn’t change a single thing. I’m
glad that I have been able to self manage this. Now I know what goes
into creating an album and can learn from this to get better every
time I go into a studio.

Oh - and also - trust your drummer! This album created so much respect
in my soul for other musicians and what they bring to the table from
guitar riffs, groovy bass lines, hooky beats to soulful background
vocals - I could never do it without them and I will never forget
that. This is a team effort.

Scott: What can we expect from the album?

Apryll: The album is very positive and uplifting to be honest.
“Butterflies” is a soft, melodic ballad about true love, while
“Forever Young” inspires people to live with vitality - realizing that
they are only as old as they think they are.

There’s everything from the morning sunrise song you can sip your
coffee to while looking at the sun come up over the water with “Sweet
Morning Sunrise” to a protest like bluesy rock song about the conflict
in the world today “Ain’t Right”.

Of course we can’t forget about the first song I wrote “Hey Sugar” -
this is a total vintage pop empowerment song and is actually the first
single. This is an anthem for starting your day, cruising in your car
or hanging out with friends. This was actually produced in New
Brunswick by Nick Fowler.

All the other songs were produced by Kenny Munshaw. The time I spent
in Savannah helped nurture my femininity and grace, while allowing me
the chance to commit paper ideas to analog tape.

Scott: I guess the more time we spend chatting, the less time you
have working on your album. Do you have any final words for all your
current and future fans?

Apryll: I’m so excited to finally have a product for you!! I want to
hear what people have to say about it - if it inspires them or makes
them relive a moment from their past - anything! I honestly wouldn’t
be here without the fans and I will always be of service. I plan to
write and create music that can be shared with the world.

I will leave you with this:
Traveling and meeting new people inspires me to create meaningful
content. My true wish for this content, is that in turn, it inspires
you to be the person you really want to be. Full of integrity, growth,
respect, perseverance & compassion. One thing we can likely agree on,
is that we all want to be better…

I kindly and humbly ask that you support my preorder album campaign by
visiting www.musicalgypsy.ca and checking to see if there are any
options that work for your budget. If you aren’t in a place to support
financially right now, then worry pas – sharing this with your network
would mean the world.

Make sure you check her out at The Carleton on Tuesday (January 5th
,2016) @ 8pm. While we anxiously wait for her arrival and her album,
I leave you with her first single from the album "Hey Sugar"

"New Brunswick’s Apryll Aileen Selected To Take Part In National Music Program"

Saint John native Apryll Aileen has been chosen to participate in Canada’s Music Incubator Artist Entrepreneur Program (CMIAE) in Toronto. The program, valued at $10,000, runs for eight weeks and is designed to help new and emerging musicians focus on building their career, businesses, and brands, via media training, performance workshops, and producer consultations, among other perks.

While her name may be new to some, Aileen is no stranger to the music world. In the last few years, she has performed everywhere from her native New Brunswick to the U.K., France and throughout the United States.

A classically trained-pianist by trade, the songs on her debut album Savannah Soul, released this past November, have earned Aileen comparisons to the likes of Tori Amos, Vanessa Carlton and Regina Spektor.

The magnitude of the opportunity coming Aileen’s remains as exciting for the young singer-songwriter as it was when she initially discovered she had been selected.

“This past October during Music New Brunswick’s Festival 506 in Miramichi, I had the opportunity to take part in a two-day boot camp on the music business,” Aileen explains. “I took so much away from that two-day session, and it was there that I met Vel Omazic who serves as the Executive Director at the music incubator program in Toronto.”

Following an extensive European tour following the mid-October Festival 506, Aileen returned to the Maritimes via Toronto. She decided to make a pit stop in Canada’s largest city, seizing the opportunity to drop Omazic a line to inquire about stopping by the organization simply to say hi.

“I took the opportunity to pick Vel’s brain, asking what I could do to be a stronger artist. He had nothing but great things and encouraged me to apply to be a part of the incubator program,” Aileen says.

To go from application to being one of two national winners in the span of just less than two months is a little dizzying, to be sure. While eternally grateful for the opportunities that are coming her way in the following months, Aileen is grounded with her assertion that her acceptance into the music incubator program does not mean she has won the lottery by any stretch of the imagination.

“Being an independent musician is difficult as you have to wear many hats other than just being a performer. I’m not complaining in the least because I love what I do and have had some incredible support from friends and family along the way.”

Asked what she is hoping to get out of the incubator program, Aileen says she is looking to sharpen her business acumen, and is also hoping to further refine her songwriting skills.

“One of the things I like most about what I’ve seen of the program thus far is that it is tailored to what you are doing with your music. They don’t view you and your music with a one-size fits all kind of approach. That is something that is important to me,” she says. - The Music Nerd Chronicles

"Carleton Music Bar & Grill Show Review"

APRYLL AILEEN came back to THE CARLETON MUSIC BAR & GRILL for the release of her new single “HEY SUGAR”. You can see the video for it HERE. She performed stripped down versions of her songs that just show off her vocal range and delicacy. Her talent never ceases to amaze me and you really need to check her out if she is in your area, my words cannot do her justice. When she started to perform “Spread My Wings” I was frozen and forgot I was there shooting. She hit the chorus and I could feel the little hairs on my neck begin to tingle, it was just so moving. The Carleton was a perfect venue for the release celebration because the intimate atmosphere paired extremely well with her performance. Her debut album “Savannah Soul” is soon to be released, but you can get access to the PRESALE here. - Scott Thieu

"The Mixed Media Method"

New York - Le Poisson Rouge - show review

Last night I shot a new party for my friend Andrea Grant. She is a talented writer, total babe and gives me work a couple times a year so I am a big fan of her existence. She helped start an art, music and poetry collective called The Mixed Media Method and last night they threw their first event at Le Poisson Rouge.

Andrea got things started off with a poetry reading and then Canadian singer/songwriter Apryll Aileen played some songs that were real pretty and then this kinda great Russian band called Mad Meg played. I can’t really explain them but I was real into it. Kinda reminded me of some weird mix between Nick Cave and Gogol Bordello which maybe doesn’t make sense at all. Alycia Mayhew was the headliner and it was a CD release party for her new album “Letting Go”. I unfortunately had to go throw an event for a football team that got fucking embarrassed on national TV so I missed her performance but I showed up a bit early and took some shots of her sound checking and she sounded great.

On top of all the live music Ian Slarsky did blind contour portraits of people all night and DJ Ivan played music between bands. Between Ian and Ivan and Igor (me) there was a lot of name related confusion but we all did our jobs anyway. Rebecca Larson hosted the whole thing too so that’s important and stuff.

And thus ends another weird event write up. I think it’s time you go look at pictures.

"Interview with Apryll Aileen"

We had the pleasure of talking with Apryll Aileen about her passion for the piano and music as whole. Beautiful voice and tender lyrics ... be sure to visit her website www.apryllaileen.com @ApryllAileen

Q: You are truly connected with your music, at what age did you know that music was going to be your passion? Was there someone or something that inspired that passion?

A: Music for me is a funny story. I've played piano since I was 5 years old but I was easily distracted and it took a lot to keep me focused. There were two teachers that really inspired me - the first was Aline, a beautiful angel sent to remind me about the simplicity that music has. I had gotten caught up in the competition of music - the need to play better, faster, stronger, and in doing so, had lost my joy. She helped me discover that joy - of playing music from the heart.
A common mistake people make with teaching others, is thinking that they want to learn the same thing as you. I went from playing Mozart to the Titanic theme song, then back around again to Rachmaninoff, because I reconnected with the joy.
The second inspiring moment is because of my teacher Ludmila Knezkova Hussey (a prodigy in Europe who played at Carnegie Hall at 18 years old). When I was 16 years old, she took myself and 5 other students with her to Ukraine for piano master classes. It was here that I truly fell in love with music & witnessed that it is the universal language of the soul. It doesn't need to be interpreted - you can feel its resonance and passion no matter what language you speak.

Q: Your talent doesn't stop with only your voice and writing abilities but you are truly one with the piano. Watching your videos you truly mesh as one with the piano, what made you choose the piano?

A: I really owe the piano to my family - both my mother and grandmother play. My grandmother used to play all the old standards at fancy hotels & my mother often played the piano and organ at church. My mother was really adamant about making sure I had the opportunity to take lessons but also ensuring that I could read sheet music & enjoy what I was playing. I'm so fortunate for her.

Q: The cover of your new album "Savannah Soul" was shot in a spot that holds some movie history, can you tell us about it and why you choice that location?

A: My life is serendipitous. I love the magic & mystery the universe holds and I do believe strongly that our thoughts and action manifest our future.
When I had first talked to Producer Kenny Munshaw about recording in Savannah, Georgia, I went online and found a remarkable photo of the Spanish Moss trees to put as my computer background image to inspire me. I had it there for a full year...however no one seemed to really know where it was taken.
On a second trip to Savannah to work with photographer Doug Ordway for the album cover, I still wasn't sure but trusted that the right location would emerge. I was walking through Forsyth Park and noticed this sweet, calm duo - a man with his dog, sitting on the park bench. I followed my intuition and even though it was a weird request, I asked to take their photo.
That resulted in a conversation that led to him showing me to Wormsloe Historic Site. When I got to the front gates, I knew instantly it was my screensaver image. I had found the exact location I had been looking at for a year on my computer screen.
This location was also where the iconic "Run Forrest Run" scene was filmed for "Forrest Gump". I've always loved this movie and its message to trust and see the good in people no matter what.
This is also the scene where his knee braces come flying off - ironically I had a knee brace in high school when I tore my ACL playing basketball.

Q: Your songs "Hey Sugar" and "Butterflies" have already been on radio, what song would you like to see go to radio next and why?

A: From the album "Savannah Soul", I would say the next song for radio would be "Forever Young". This is such a classic, fun, upbeat song that puts people in a great mood - roll the windows down, let the breeze in & really live life because age is just a number!

Q: Your song "Forever Young" is one that you hold close to heart and you're hoping it delivers a specific message to your fans, could you explain?

A: This answer is a bit of a continuum from the previous one. The message behind this song is to inspire you to get back into life no matter what pain, disarray or heartbreak you may have encountered.
"We're only as old as we think we are" - I see this everyday with people around me. My friend's dad at 92 years of age, went zip-lining - how cool is that!?

Q: Valentine's Day 2014 brought about a big change to your music career. What inspired that change and how has it affected you?

A: In 2013-2014, I was extremely fortunate to be in the corporate world, with a stable paycheck and encouraging leaders around me. I learnt a lot of lessons that have helped me get to where I am today.
However, there comes a point when you realize that although it's comfortable & a stable place to be, it's not truly what your heart wants. I do believe that we are all here for a certain purpose or mission. Deep in my heart, we all knew that I was not meant to stay in that world and so off I jumped - into the land of the unknown.
No matter what happens now, I can truly say that I am doing exactly what I would be doing if I had millions of dollars in the bank (mind you, I would be creating art and music at a whole new level).

Q: You got to hang out backstage at The Grammy Awards with Lady Gaga, Nile Rodgers, Jay Z, Beyonce, and Bruno Mars. What was that experience like for you?

A: To be honest, when I was first talking to Lady Gaga and her parents, I didn't even realize it was her. I'll never forget how she first looked me dead in the eyes - it felt like we already knew each other.
All of a sudden - I was surrounded with the BIGGEST names in the industry. All of them were wonderful to be around - Nile Rodgers has such a profound knowledge and history for music production - he is a living legend.
But Lady Gaga was my favourite - it was HER night. She just finished performing an incredible tribute show for David Bowie and yet, not only was she cool with taking a selfie with me - she didn't move her arm from around my shoulders until we had the perfect shot. She's committed to her fans and I will never forget that moment.

Q: As a songwriter, where do you get your inspiration from?

A: Life....and God....people I meet & observe....travel...visiting a new part of the world always creates new music. Swimming in new waters, also always results in new melodies and songs in my head. Meditation and the dream world also offer quite a bit of inspiration.

Q: If you could collaborate with any artist who would it be and why?

A: This is a hard one....alive or dead? lol
John Lennon....but living artists...honestly, I would have to say Lady Gaga because after meeting her, I was inspired to watch some of her older videos before she hit international fame with "Poker Face" and I realized that she is still that girl behind the piano, hoping to inspire the world through music and make it a better place.

Q: Why is it important to you to stay connected with your fans and what is the best way for your fans to stay connected with you?

A: Fans are the most important part of this business - I don't want to make music that no one listens to - what is the point of that? I am merely a tool to relay a message and hopefully, to deliver more of what the fans are wanting to hear and needing to feel.

"Canadian Artist Apryll Aileen Releases UK Exclusive with New Album"

Apryll Aileen – ‘Hey Sugar’ from ‘Savannah Soul’ album

Release Date: 25th November 2016

Savannah Soul’ is available here: smarturl.it/dmeyh3

LONDON, ENGLAND: After a showcase in Cannes at Midem and an American tour, soulful Canadian singer/songwriter Apryll Aileen releases her debut album with a UK exclusive: her own rendition of Joni Mitchell’s song ‘River’ just in time for Christmas.

Aileen’s first single ‘Hey Sugar’ was written for one of her best friends after watching her struggle through a toxic relationship.

“The song is meant to inspire & empower people – especially women”, Aileen states. “However, I think everyone can think of a time when they have felt used and disrespected. If you’ve ever felt that way, this song is for you.”

The album, ‘Savannah Soul’ was inspired by a trip to Savannah, Georgia, where Toronto based Producer, Kenny Munshaw (Justin Bieber, The Tenors, Miss America 2012), spends some of his time. Munshaw and Aileen were introduced shortly after Apryll wrote the soundtrack song for ‘Butterflies’ – a film by Emmy Award Winning Writer & Director, Cayman Grant.

The album was recorded and produced between Munshaw’s studio in Toronto, Ontario & Dollhouse Studios in Savannah, Georgia and features the engineering expertise of Peter Mavrogeorgis (The National, Philip Glass, Childish Gambino) and the mastering skills of New York based Scott Hull of Masterdisk (Bruce Springsteen, John Mayer, Madonna, The Rolling Stones, Pearl Jam, Jay-Z, etc.).

The debut album from Apryll Aileen, recorded in Savannah, Georgia, allowed her to nurture her femininity and grace, while allowing her the chance to commit paper ideas to analog tape. A Deluxe version of Savannah Soul features ‘River’ as a bonus track, fans can also receive an ‘instant gratification’ of ‘Hey Sugar’ when pre-ordering the album on iTunes.

Aileen’s first single ‘Hey Sugar’ was added to radio rotation in Canada & led to her deciding to tour the UK.

The ‘Savannah Soul – Deluxe’ album, will be released on 25th November 2016, with Horus Music. ‘

"Apryll Aileen is full of ‘Savannah Soul’"

Apryll Aileen was first brought to Music Crown’s attention after they first saw her at a showcase in Cannes, France earlier in the year. Since then, Apryll has been working tirelessly to finish her exciting debut album.

The Canadian singer/songwriter has an extra special addition to her album too, which was previously unavailable in the UK. ‘Savannah Soul – Deluxe Edition’ now also includes an exclusive cover of ‘River’ as made famous by Joni Mitchell.

‘Hey Sugar’ is the lead single from the album and is a great little pop track that instantly catches your ear from the first line “Hey Sugar, what you doin’ this for?” She adds that the song was written for one of her best friends after watching her struggle through a toxic relationship. “I think everyone can think of a time when they have felt used and disrespected. If you’ve ever felt that way, this song is for you”, Aileen states. “The song is meant to inspire and empower people”.

‘Forever Young’ is the first track on the album which discussed how tough life and love can be. Don’t expect this to be a slow song though Aileen looks on the bright side and embraces life as it is.

The penultimate track ‘Texas’ brings a catchy country vibe. “Left my heart in Texas, I’ll never be the same” Aileen sings in the verse.

Apryll Aileen has been releasing a music video each week in the lead-up to the album release on Friday 25th November 2016, with videos for ‘Hey Sugar’, ‘Forever Young’ and ‘Little By Little’ already available. Those that have been following her on Twitter will notice that she’s been shooting more videos too. Clearly, Aileen isn’t done yet and we’re looking forward to seeing what other musical offerings she has in the pipeline.

The album takes its name from a trip Aileen took to Savannah, Georgia after hearing stories from her Toronto-based producer Kenny Munshaw (Justin Bieber, The Tenors, Miss America 2012). Aileen felt a kinship with Savannah and was able to reconnect with herself while “allowing her the chance to commit paper ideas to analogue tape”. From this, ‘Savannah Soul’ felt like the perfect name for the eight-track album.

The album has been added to radio rotation in her native Canada, which has since led to her deciding to tour the UK in the lead up to Christmas. She has so far played several dates in and around Wales and London, with more on the way. Aileen shares one recent story of a gig she played on Halloween where she was the only person in the venue who decided to go in fancy dress “Oh, the joys of being an excited Canadian” she laughs.

The album will be released in full on Friday 25th November 2016. - Music Crowns

Her song “Butterflies” earned the title track on the multiple award-winning film “Butterflies” in 2014 by Emmy® Award-Winning Director Cayman Grant (Oxygen Best Female Director Award, participant in the prestigious NBC/Universal Emerging Directors TV Program, etc.).

In 2016, after an American tour, soulful Canadian singer/songwriter Apryll Aileen released her debut album "Savannah Soul" with a UK exclusive: her own rendition of Joni Mitchell’s song “River” just in time for the Holidays.

Bio

Apryll Aileen is a Canadian alternative pop-rock singer-songwriter, musician, multi-instrumentalist — classically trained in piano.

Her sultry vocals, captivating lyrics and alluring stage presence make Apryll a fan favourite at music festivals worldwide. Aileen transcends genres, creating her own undefinable sound with influences coming from pop, rock, blues and jazz. She doesn’t imitate – she creates. A hybrid of two polarities, she blends melodic songwriting and raspy vocal tones from modern artists such as Ellie Goulding and Halsey but performs with intensity, dynamic range and vocal gravel that Stevie Nicks and Janis Joplin would be proud of.

She does it all from behind a piano but sometimes you may see her bring out a guitar, a synth or maybe even a keytar, if the mood strikes.

When Aileen writes songs, she thinks of the collective and voices what others feel but can’t express. With soulful vocals, hooky melodies and raw emotion, her songwriting is inspired by real life events. From pain, to finding inner strength through love, her songs take the listener on a journey through their own inner landscape of being.

This includes her new single, “Don’t Make Me Wait” (Oct 2018), a modern-day blend of the 80s and 90s. Written in Venice Beach, California by Perry Rod and Apryll Aileen and produced by Marty Rod, the song shares an upbeat story of being ready for love.

In 2017, Aileen was nominated as “Pop Artist of the Year” for the Music NB Awards following the release of her debut album, Savannah Soul (2016), and was also a recipient of the YWCA Women of Distinction Award for Arts, Culture & Design. Her debut single, “Hey Sugar” (2016), received cross-Canada airplay and made it to CBC Searchlight’s (annual competition for Canada’s next undiscovered talent), top-25 nationally.

In 2016 and 2017, Aileen had several sync placements in the TV shows “The Next Step” and “Lost & Found Music Studios” (The Family Channel & BBC Worldwide), for her songs “Great Expectations”, “Now is Our Time”, “Keep Me Hangin’”, “Can’t Buy Fame” and “Faith”. Her song “Butterflies” earned the title track on the multiple award-winning film “Butterflies” in 2014 by Emmy® Award-Winning Director Cayman Grant (Oxygen Best Female Director Award, participant in the prestigious NBC/Universal Emerging Directors TV Program, etc.).

Aileen spends most of her time performing and writing music between the quiet solitude of New Brunswick in Atlantic Canada and the hustle and bustle of downtown Toronto. When she is not in either, she is usually found on the Venice Beach boardwalk, SoCal style, where her boho spirit and love for the sun and ocean connect.

She is currently recording her second album, UNDEFIMABLE, which will be released in early 2020.

Quotes:

On live performance:

"It's not often someone comes to Venice with little fanfare and absolutely captivates a crowd with just a few songs, but that is exactly what Apryll did when she graced our stage.  It's really saying something when you open for a pair of Rock n Roll Hall of Famers like Steve Ferrone and Al Jardine, and everyone leaves talking about you!  Local legends such as The Lennon Sisters, Teena Marie, Fiona Apple and P!nk would have been proud of Apryll that night. "

George Francisco (Venice Chamber of Commerce, LA Concerts)

On first single "Hey Sugar":

“This song is really well produced. Hooks galore and lots of dynamics throughout the song to hold my attention. I would love to hear more recordings from Apryll to see what other directions her music can take the listener.”

Craig Laskey, Collective Concerts

“Hey Sugar” is a beautiful song that showcases the amazing vocals of Apryll Aileen matched with her talent on the piano. Lyrically this song is empowering and a sound that resonates with radio listeners and music lovers alike.”

Toni Ross, Corus Radio

On "Savannah Soul" Album:

“The album sounds like a blend of vocals from Jill Barber & Norah Jones, with contemporary pop grooves from Vanessa Carlton & Tori Amos.”

Jeff Liberty, CBC Radio
