Biography

VERY BAND HOPES to create a sound so unique that it leaves an unforgettable impression. So came the birth of Aquestrya which literally meant “A quest to [leave our] mark.” Fronted by song writer, lyricist, and former Canadian Idol competitor, Naomi-Joy, Aquestrya is Halifax’s only female fronted symphonic rock / modern progressive metal band. Their original music co-written by Mike Morris & Danny Grinder is an eclectic blend of Classical, Latin, Middle Eastern, and Operatic musical elements married with Heavy Metal. Aquestrya is fast, fierce, feminine, manic, melodic and highly technical. Their sound is one that is truly unique to the Maritimes.

It didn’t take long before this foursome began to create technical and melodic music so intriguing and provocative that they quickly gained a supportive following in the Halifax Heavy Metal and Hard Rock music scene. Aquestrya became a gateway band for Halifax music fans who wouldn’t normally listen to “Loud” music.

After a brief hiatus in 2009, Aquestrya returned to the Halifax music scene stronger than ever. 2010 introduced the birth of “Aquestrya Presents” events, such as WOMEN WHO ROCK (featured on Q-104, and in The Coast) and ROCK THE FORCES. They’ve also played featured performances at MAIDENS OF METAL, RIVERFEST and more. Aquestrya is like no other band that can be seen and heard in Halifax at this time. Following their debut album release in April 2011, they continue to create new sounds - rocking Halifax in epic proportions - ultimately turning heads in the Maritime music industry.
