"Local Music Heroes: Arian Saleh"

It's no secret that Los Angeles is a city full of wannabe rock stars. Some will make it and most don't. Likewise, a few folks who set up musical shop in the Southern California region have an arsenal of great songs, lyrics and musicianship. Again, most don't. Luckily, we have a new talent blossoming quietly on the scene. No, you won't find him sniffing around the hipster enclaves of the east side. And no, don't expect to see him to beg for a spot on the once great Sunset Strip. Arian Saleh sings songs from his heart and not in some cheesy Jack Johnson type way. For one, this man has a powerful voice that carries considerable emotional weight. Perhaps more importantly, Mr. Saleh's tunes are not confined to the American musical lexicon. Sure, there are guitars and all that good stuff. Yet on Saleh's debut EP, The Cobblestone EP (available on iTunes or CD Baby), the songs feel more suited for a stroll through the San Telmo region of Buenos Aires or at a Parisian cafe shooing off pigeons than stuck in 405 gridlock.

So if you want to leave LA for a minute, at least in your mind, check out the accordions and strings of "Unspoken" or the hypnotic piano textures of "Wakeup." Or better yet, check out Mr. Saleh when he pops up around town, strapped with his acoustic guitar, for an intimate gig.

Bio

I'm a Bay Area native who now lives in Brooklyn. My grandmother was an Opera singer and my mother made some brilliant records so music has been a part of my life since jump. As an artist, my varied influences, from tango music to electronica, gypsy traditions from the mountains to Sting and Radiohead, have helped me develop a unique sound that is a rich blend of all these things, focused through my lens and my background. As an Iranian-American raised in the United States by a family caught between two worlds, exploring life love and loss in a traditionally american sense but with an ancient cultural reservoir, I have a point of view and a story that music and poetry were built to express.

I've teamed up with grammy nominated virtuoso cellist Dave Eggar and his musical partner, drummer Chuck Palmer and we've toured extensively as a trio. They, along with DJ/Producer Chuck Wild (Captain Planet) are producing my forthcoming debut full length and I feel we have created a sound that is beautiful, singular, thumping and wholly awesome.
