Biography

A gifted artist embodied by a sultry voice that dances with a rock edge, NYC-based singer-songwriter Ariel Lask is breaking sonic stereotypes with her seductive blend of folk and soul. Lyrics saturated with honesty allow both her passion and innocence to flow freely, inviting you to experience this singer-songwriter’s world through her own eyes. Born and raised in Monroe, NY, Ariel began playing music at the age of 15 and by 18, she received her first taste of the NYC music scene at the Singer/Songwriter Sessions. In 2008, Ariel moved to London to continue her education while working and recording with Mi7 records, playing venues like the Paradise London. She returned to New York in 2009, focusing solely on her music career and hitting the stage at New York staples like Rockwood Music Hall, The Living Room, The Knitting Factory, Pete’s Candy Store, Canal Room and Pianos. She’s supported rising NYC acts such as Rachel Platten and Nick Howard, and released her first album, Great Escape, in 2010. A passion for helping those less fortunate led Ariel to volunteer with Musicians On Call and hosting a number of benefit concerts in the New York area, a staple aspect of her music career that will continually remain present.

This honest and soulful artist embraces the grittier parts of life in her musical journey, creating addictive songs that are well-constructed, unique and most importantly, real. She is in the process of recording a new EP due out next year, following the launch of a Kickstarter Campaign in January 2013.

Lyrics

Dirt's On Fire

Written By: Ariel Lask

Walking away, you're walking so fast your feet bleed
You don't slow your pace, you keep on going
And I've tried, lord I've tried to walk where you left your mark
But the dirt's on fire

And it burns, it burns, it burns, I can't turn around
And it hurts, it hurts, it hurts, to know that I'm
Standing in your flames
I'm standing where you should have been
I'm standing 100 feet from where you said you'd be

All of the things that could have been if you had the courage to stay with me but you didn't
Everything's like a distant dream I want to wake and finally feel sane
But you can't live that way, no, you can't live in a fantasy
And the dirt's on fire

And it burns, it burns, it burns, I can't turn around
And it hurts, it hurts, it hurts, to know that I'm
Standing in your flames
I'm standing where you should have been
I'm standing 100 feet from where you said you'd be x2
