"Local band launched EP at The Mule on Saturday"

Five-piece alternative rock band Arm the Innocent are launching their debut self-titled EP Saturday when they open for Bobnoxious at The Stubborn Mule.

The Sarnia-Lambton band was formed by guitarists Jason Batson and Jason Best in 2009 at Lambton College. Batson's brother Ethan Harse and long-time friend Paul Kells joined shortly thereafter on guitar and bass.

Drummer Adam "Tug" Brandon joined this year.

"We've been jamming pretty strong since last February or March," Brandon said in an interview.

"We're pumped for our third show. We couldn't ask for a better spot to play."

Described as alternative rock with guitar-driven, catchy melodies, Arm the Innocent took the inspiration for their name from ATI Computers.

Members of the band have opened for acts like Edwin and Project Wise.

Tracks on the EP include Maryanne and Things Unsaid; Arm the Innocent plan to record a full-length album starting early in 2012.

Expect at least a 30-minute set at the show, Harse said. The band has 12 original songs in its repertoire and another three in the works.

Mark Tetreault of Sarnia's Sprowt Studios recorded the EP, has shot a video for Maryanne and helped the band secure Saturday's gig.

"He's been helping us out a lot like that," Brandon said.

Song writing is a collaborative process, said Batson, who's also the lead singer.

"We're all really good friends," he said. "It's nice to have that bond."

He hopes to get Arm the Innocent an opening gig at Bayfest next year. "I'm optimistic we have big things coming."

Doors open at 9 p.m. for Arm the Innocent, Bobnoxious and Zodiac Bird at The Stubborn Mule on Saturday. Tickets are available at the door. - The Sarnia Observer

Forming in early 2011, Sarnia, Ontario, Arm The Innocents momentum has steadily been growing in the Southern Ontario music scene. In November 2011, the band generated tremendous buzz with the release of their self titled EP Arm The Innocent which included two songs Maryanne and Things Unsaid. The fast paced Maryanne, provides the raw guitar tone that the three guitars make possible, with catchy leads and thick rhythm. Things Unsaid showcases the bands lighter side, utilizing 3 part vocal harmonies, hard hitting chorus riffs and catchy lyrics.

Since they started playing shows, they have been regarded as a group of approachable and professional musicians, on and off the stage. Their first show was a memorial for Al Harse, to raise money for the Heart and Stroke foundation. Following that August evening, the band has been playing increasingly larger shows with larger fan turn out. A note worthy show was December 10th 2011, where they opened for Bobnoxious at The Stubborn Mule and impressed the venue. They were were asked to perform a follow up show the following month, which has been regarded as their best show to date, packed with high stage energy and a powerful set list.

Recently Arm The Innocent traveled to London, Ontario to perform at The Ceeps for the UWO Guitar Clubs battle of the bands, and came home with the top prize. The band now has its eyes and hearts set on the Landmark Entertainment Showcase @ The Mod Club in Toronto, Ontario.
