Whiskey Kisses

Whiskey Kisses
(Copyright: Arnold Burry – 03/07/07)

(Verse 1)
She was a lonely lady
Who was longing to be
In the arms of someone….
Anyone….
Then she found lonesome me….
Alone in the corner
Nursing the night before
She wanders over to me
And pulled me to the dance floor

(Chorus)
Honey….
Oh! Honey….
You need to understand
When old whiskey flows
Sweet talk pours from a man
and….
They were whiskey kisses
Whiskey kisses
Nothing more….
Honey! Your body
Was warm and tender
But I don’t deserve it anymore…

(Verse 2)
She brushes her makeup on
And strolls once more downtown
Going from bar to bar
Hoping….
Longing to track me down
Why does she see in me
A lost and lonesome man
Cause they were whiskey kisses
Why doesn’t she understand

(Chorus)
Honey….
Oh! Honey….
You need to understand
When old whiskey flows
Sweet talk pours from a man
and….
They were whiskey kisses
Whiskey kisses
Nothing more….
Honey! Your body
Was warm and tender
But I don’t deserve it anymore…

(Verse 3)
You are a lovely lady
There’s much that I lack
What do you see in me
And why….
Do you keep coming back
Honey flames of love died
For me long, long ago
When those cold whiskey kisses
Took it all, even my soul

(Chorus)
Honey….
Oh! Honey….
You need to understand
When old whiskey flows
Sweet talk pours from a man
and….
They were whiskey kisses
Whiskey kisses
Nothing more….
Honey! Your body
Was warm and tender
But I don’t deserve it anymore…

It’s the color of my skin

Written By: Arnold Burry

It’s the color of my skin
(By: Arnold Burry*)
(A tribute to Lanier Phillips, a survivor of the USS Truxton and the people of St. Lawrence)

(Verse 1)
They treated me like their own
No hatred in their land
A colored man shipwrecked
On the shores of Newfoundland
They washed me with their love
By their kind and gentle hand
How they cleanse my tender soul
And renewed my faith in man

(Chorus)
You can’t get it of
It’s the color of my skin
But the angels from St. Lawrence
Continue to take care of him
Saying……
Oh! Don’t you worry mister
You have nothing to fear
Oh! Don’t you worry mister
We are all God’s children here

(Verse 2)
From my skin they washed the oil
As they made me whole
Those people gave me hope
When my homeland was so cold
As I boy I would hide
From the madness in our land
I just had to get away
It was more than I could stand

(Chorus)
You can’t get it of
It’s the color of my skin
But the angels from St. Lawrence
Continue to take care of him
Saying……
Oh! Don’t you worry mister
You have nothing to fear
Oh! Don’t you worry mister
We are all God’s children here

(Verse 3)
I thought my life was over
When we crashed on their land
The color of my skin
Would be more than they could stand
One spoonful at a time
Their love uplifted me
If everyone were like them
How sweet the world would be

(Chorus)
You can’t get it of
It’s the color of my skin
But the angels from St. Lawrence
Continue to take care of him
Saying……
Oh! Don’t you worry mister
You have nothing to fear
Oh! Don’t you worry mister
We are all God’s children here

A Wreath Upon The Water

A Wreath upon the Water
(Copyright: Arnold Burry 08/20/2008)
(A tribute to the those that gave their lives at sea in war for our freedom and to those that survived along with their loves ones who live it for the rest of their lives)

(Verse 1)

O’ a wreath on the water
Some will find peace and solace today
Memories still they linger
As it gently floats away
Cries from a distant past
Still echo from the sea
From love ones that paid the price
Because (defending our) freedom is never free

(Pre-Chorus)
They stare out to the sea
A longing to be

(Chorus)
O’…… A wreath upon the water
No fear of the storm today
Hope for eternal life
To meet again they pray
So many wreaths upon the water
From loves ones far and near
So many wreaths given to the sea
For loves ones they still hold dear
A wreath upon the water

(Verse 2)

O’ a wreath on the water
For freedom paid in full
For the born and unborn
And all dear that we hold
No mercy in ‘42
From a piercing wind and raging sea
A grip that still lingers
Now etched in their memory

(Pre-Chorus)
They stare out to the sea
A longing to be

(Chorus)
O’…… A wreath upon the water
No fear of the storm today
Hope for eternal life
To meet again they pray
So many wreaths upon the water
From loves ones far and near
So many wreaths given to the sea
For loves ones they still hold dear
A wreath upon the water

(Bridge)
A pilgrimage for closure
Prayers from hearts that bleed since ‘42
The price they paid for freedom
Freedom for me and you

(Verse 3)

O’ a wreath on the water
O’ how it calms the soul
Holds a place in their hearts
For loves ones lost long ago
Last good-byes remembered
Plans that would never be
A ring that was never passed
Lost to the unforgiving sea

(Pre-Chorus)
They stare out to the sea
A longing to be

(Chorus)
O’…… A wreath upon the water
No fear of the storm today
Hope for eternal life
To meet again they pray
So many wreaths upon the water
From loves ones far and near
So many wreaths given to the sea
For loves ones they still hold dear
A wreath upon the water

(Verse 4)

A wreath upon the water
Now all calm and serene
Wrinkles faces on old men
Still living in the dream
No peace will come
Until they go to that distant shore
Where they can be with their ship mates
And live in peace once more

(Pre-Chorus)
They stare out to the sea
A longing to be

(Chorus)
O’…… A wreath upon the water
No fear of the storm today
Hope for eternal life
To meet again they pray
So many wreaths upon the water
From loves ones far and near
So many wreaths given to the sea
For loves ones they still hold dear
A wreath upon the water
