Het is die echte, onvergelijkbare en beetje vage indierock van onze zuiderburen, waarbij je het gevoel hebt dat er onverwachte dingen kunnen gaan gebeuren. Knalharde sound met stuwende gitaren en een sexy bas. De synths zijn geen gimmick, dat horen we tegenwoordig al voldoende. Een beetje Millionaire en een beetje Soulwax, maar door de meerstemmigheid en ook de zang van bassiste Tine Gernaey wel een eigen geluid. Echte uitschieters zijn er niet, de set als geheel is boeiend.

Aanschuiven in een zich rap vullend Mezz Café na het niet te missen School Is Cool blijkt voor sommigen een te grote opgave. Mensen zich draaien om, gaan nog wat drinken in de zaal. Het is heel tof dat Mezz tijdens Ik Zie U Graag één gesloten geheel vormt, alleen hebben enkele bezoekers nu een wel heel leuk indiebandje gemist.
Conclusie
Vorig jaar gaf muziekstad Gent Ik Zie U Graag de grote verrassing The Hong Kong Dong, dit jaar is het Arquettes dat opvalt. Nog te nieuw voor de ‘Hollanders’ om al onverwacht uit de hoek te komen. Arquettes staat met hun net verschenen debuut ‘Wave On’ aan de start van… Ja, wat? Een doorbraak in België moet haast wel lukken en misschien krijgt Arquettes in Nederland ook nog wat voor elkaar. Smaakt naar meer!

ARQUETTES
At the end of 2007 Arquettes released a mini album, for which they cooperated with producer Pascal Deweze (Metal Molly, Sukilove, …). With the hitsingles “It’s A Relief” and “Feehler” they could arrange a nice sequence of concerts with highlights as Ancienne Belgique, Boomtown Ghent, Pukkelpop 2007 and Maanrock 2008. In the slipstream of these concerts they attended the live national television program ‘Debby & Nancy’ and they slowly discovered The Netherlands resulting in playing the showcasefestival ZXZW in Tilburg by the end of 2008.

In 2008 they started writing on new songs for their debut record. They convinced the French topproducer Stéphane “Alf” Briat to coöperate. He is known as one the architects of French sound engineering by working with Air, Phoenix, Sébastien Tellier, Etienne de Crécy, Alex Gopher, Cosmo Vitelli and many others.
Basictracks were recorded at the fairylike studios of La Frette (Feist, Patrick Watson,…) near Paris in march of 2010. Overdubs and mixing were done at “Alfs” own “Bleeps” studio in the heart of Paris. The album was mastered at Translab (Paris).
What to expect? A modern pop/rock album with catchy songs in which recalcitrant grooves, bittersweet harmonies and solid rockguitars fit perfectly together.
The video of their first single “Gutters” became a real mediahype in Belgium, starring the mayor of Ghent and some well-known politicians as real rockstars. In the meanwhile ‘Gutters’ has become a real radiohit on Belgiums most known radio station, ‘Studio Brussel’. Their album is to be released in The Netherlands at the end of February 2011.
