"Arrows Come From Monroe, MI"

Arrows is a collage of pop punk, alternative rock, and hard rock from just over the border in Monroe, MI. The music ranges from light and melodic to heavy grooves that begin to approach the territory of metal.

I had this exchange with Arrows’ drummer and vocalist Evin Daniels.

Give a brief history of your musical career(s), how you got started, why you picked your instrument of choice, and if you’re a band, how you met and came together as a musical act.

Music has pretty much been my life since the beginning you could say. I grew up watching my dad play music and he inspired me to start singing and playing drums. I’ve been playing in bands for about 7 or 8 years now. I met Luke and Corey way back in middle school and we’ve been in bands together ever since. We started Arrows earlier this year and we added Jon in about 3 months after being a band.

How would you describe your style of music? What makes your music unique compared to others in your genre?

As far as style, I think it mainly depends on how people perceive it when they hear us. There are elements of pop punk and alternative rock I guess you could say. We don’t try to fit in a genre, we just play what we want to hear.

Who are your biggest musical influences and in what way have they influenced your own music?

For me personally, my dad is my biggest inspiration. He’s been in music his whole life and is an amazing drummer which inspires me to get better. Both Luke and Corey’s dads play music as well so we all come from musical backgrounds.

What is your favorite song to perform (if applicable, otherwise what is your favorite song) and why?

I like all of the songs a lot but I dig “I Try To Forget” the most I guess. I really dig a new song we’ve been playing lately. It’ll be on our next release sometime early next year.

What is your favorite Toledo-area venue to play and why?

So far we’ve only played Frankie’s, so that place is tight.

What is your favorite recording studio in the Toledo-area?

We haven’t recorded in Toledo yet.

In what ways do you promote your music to your target audience? What unique tips do you have for new bands to get the word out about their music?

Right now we have our EP up on our bandcamp site. We don’t have any physical copies yet but we mainly promote the EP online on our Facebook, tumblr, twitter, etc. For starting bands, don’t be afraid to take chances and don’t be shy, you have to get your foot in the door for people to notice you.

What is your favorite Toledo-area band or musician (besides yourself, of course)?

Citizen, React, The Strong Talk, and Devyn Hightower are all real sweet. Another amazing band is Jack & the Bear. They are from Monroe, MI, where we’re from but they play in Toledo a lot.

Where can your fans find more information about you and upcoming show dates?

Bio

We're three friends from Southeast Michigan who love to play music. We express our emotions and angst through heavy rock music and sing about things that anyone from a small town could relate to.

Evin Daniels // Drums/Vocals
Jon Stafford // Bass
