Biography

Nominated 2010 IMA Americana Song of the Year!

#3 European Counrtry Music Charts in Denmark, #9 in Italy

Spanning generations and centuries, the collective that has been known as The Art Gomperz Band has unleashed an all new original Bluegrass, Country and Americana CD sharing with the world a celebration of music, life and friendship.

Honoring their late friend and incredible song writing talent, Bev Hahn, The Art Gomperz Band has done a wonderful job of bringing Bev’s music into reality and is proud to present her words and music. A full house of ten original songs encompasses the breadth of Bev's music.

From a strong backbone of bluegrass and country, Bev's writing also spans facets of ballads, swing and folk rock.

“A Different Story To Tell” not only reflects well on Bev’s approach to songwriting but also to her perspective to life in general. Bev was a light in the darkness. A friend when you didn’t even know you needed one, a confidant and a musical powerhouse.

Bev’s partner of many years, Dan Geib, also brings new life and excitement to original Banjo & Flatpicking instrumentals and Jenna Mammina contributes not only her stellar singing talent but also her lovely collaboration for Inner Smile as well.

Alan Bates, one of Bluegrass hottest Dobro Players, brings not only innovative and energetic dobro to the mix, but also solid banjo & mandolin on several selections.

Playing some of the best bluegrass bass you will ever hear, Mark Albers, aka Art Gomperz. along with Bob Flood, round out an exceptional rythm section

Over the years, Art Gomperz is proud to have appeared with: Steep Canyon Ranges, Drew Emmitt, Pure Prairie League, Commander Cody, Jeanne Sealy, Peter Rowan, The Dillards, Little Jimmy Dickens, Ernest Tubb Jr., Black Oak Arkansas and a cast of thousands!.

From a long long time ago, the collective that has been known as The Art Gomperz Band has taken an unexpected loss and proudly triumphed over tragedy by sharing with the world a celebration of music, life and eternal friendship.

Spanning generations and centuries, The Art Gomperz Band has long been a fixture in the bluegrass and acoustic world and now with their new release, they truly have …. “A Different Story to Tell”

A Different Story Begins.

Bev and I began playing music about 10 years ago while she was playing a small local pub. She asked me to bring my guitar down and sit in sometime. So I did, and from that jam sprouted over a decade of music together. While Bev always came loaded with armfuls of cover material, it was Bev’s songwriting (as you can now hear) that set her apart from so many musicians that I have played with over the years.

In 2008 Bev & I embarked on an ambitious plan to build a studio and create a CD of select material that Bev had written for both our duo as well as the band. In the midst of all the excitement, we were able to get all tracks for 9 songs completed and we were just waiting for Bev to finish her final vocal tracks. It was a wait that no one ever knew would be forever as Bev’s spirit left us on the morning of September 30, 2008.

The Story Continues

During the celebration of Bev’s life, Jenna Mammina & I began to discuss the possibility of Jenna finishing Bev’s songs with us. I expressed to Jenna that there was no one on the planet that could be considered Bev’s musical soul mates as much as Jenna & I and that only with Jenna could I properly finish Bev’s material and our vision. So we all got busy with this great opportunity to honor our dear friend. Jenna’s rich wonderful voice and love of Bev & her music has helped us all realize a dream, and for that I will be forever grateful. Welcome to Art Gomperz Jenna!

And so here we are with our musical tribute to Bev Hahn.

“A Different Story To Tell” not only reflects well on Bev’s approach to songwriting but also to her perspective to life in general. Bev was a light in the darkness. A friend when you didn’t even know you needed one, a confidant and a musical powerhouse..

Bev’s songwriting contemplates the issues of every day life--Relationships, personal growth, searching, growing up growing old, and songs that tell the stories of others whose paths she has crossed Hahn's experience over the years performing as a professional musician has given her the opportunity to explore a variety of musical styles. She draws from this varied background, creating music that takes unexpected turns breaking rules of convention.

Spanning generations and centuries, the collective that has been known as The Art Gomperz Band has taken an unexpected loss and proudly triumphed over tragedy by sharing with the world a celebration of music, life and eternal friendship.

Lyrics

This Hearts Been Around

Written By: Bev Hahn

This heart’s been around
and it’s been abused
it’s gonna take more than
you’re givin’to polish it up
make it shiny and new well i’ve been here before
and i’ve seen the pain i’ve given too much too fast
it hurts the same no matter who’s to blame

(chorus)
so if it’s love that you really wanted from me
it’s gonna take time for me to believe
‘cuz this heart’s been around

well i know i sound rough
but i seen enough
to know that good intentions
don’t always stay on the path
we choose oh ain’t it a shame
that a love gone wrong
leaves behind the memories
it makes it hard to find love again

A Place That I Call Home

Written By: Bev Hahn

you and i have been together
for a long time seems forever
that i’ve had you here by my side
up and down all around
life’s been an adventure baby
dreams rewritten
love left on the fly
through it all
our love has seen us through
tonight standing here with you
(chorus)
i know a place that i call home yeah
it’s not a house
it’s not a town or a city
it’s a place we’re at
when we are alone

you can be across the room
in a crowd i catch your eye
i know you see the same things
that i see
even when we disagree
there’s still a common place
that we can always find a
way to travel to
through it all
our love has seen us through
tonight standing here with you
(chorus)
if i had a chance to do it all again
what would i change
‘cuz it might change the story’s end
(repeat chorus twice)

Beg Steal Or Borrow

Written By: Bev Hahn

beg, steal or borrow
i’ll find a way
to make you love me
to make you stay
i’m through with heartache
i’m through with pain
i’m through playin’
playin’ all these games
got no excuses
no one to blame
‘cept for myself
for playing all these games
i’m through with heartache
i’m through with tears
i’m through wastin’
wastin’ all these years
‘cuz i don’t think you
ever really knew how to love
just a vision i had
on a pedestal above
it just sounds so cliché
i was just a fool in love

(solo, then repeat verse)
beg, steal or borrow
i’ll find a way
to make you love me
to make you stay
i’m through with heartache
i’m through with pain
i’m through playin’
playin’ all these games
well that’s what i get
i won’t forget it now
that’s what i get
for throwin’ caution to the wind
i said that’s what i get
i won’t forget it now
that’s what i get
for throwin’ caution to the wind
(repeat verse)

Dont Worry Anymore

Written By: Bev Hahn

well i don’t know
if it’s gonna rain or shine
i don’t know if i’m ever
gonna get a chance
to speak my mind
i don’t know if i’ll get caught up
from runnin’ from behind
but you know
i don’t worry anymore

‘cuz the eyes of the lord
are the only eyes
i need to please
and the ears of the lord
will welcome me
when i need release
worry overcomes me
i look up to the lord for peace
then you know
i don’t worry anymore

when judgement comes from those
who wear a shaded eye
criticism lashes out
makes me want to cry
fear becomes my enemy
i look up to the sky
then you know
i don’t worry anymore
‘cuz the eyes of the lord
are the only eyes
i need to please
and the ears of the lord
will welcome me
when i need release
worry overcomes me
i look up to the lord for peace
then you know
i don’t worry anymore

when the load that i am carryin’
seems too much to bear
the road that i have taken
doesn’t take me anywhere
i look up to the heavens
and know that she is there
then you know
i don’t worry anymore
‘cuz the eyes of the lord
are the only eyes
i need to please
and the ears of the lord
will welcome me
when i need release
worry overcomes me
i look up to the lord for peace
then you know
i don’t worry anymore
(repeat chorus)
