Feeling a bit camera shy

The Arthologist is a burgeoning artist igniting a fervor at the grass roots level. Talent shows and other live music productions on the many stages of Rutgers University were his initial stomping grounds. The Arthologist is a lyricist with an authentic, classic hip hop aura. He has been able to strike a balance that few rappers are able to reach--delivery with a genuine edge absent of vulgarity and profanity. When listening to his music, one can't help but think, "Creative..."

"Gist," as he is commonly referred to, is a New York City native. Born in Brooklyn and raised in Jamaica Queens, he feels an intrinsic connection with the city and the formative backdrop New York City has been for Hip Hop. Gist will often mention in jest how he was born for this; alluding to his birthdate, July 18th, being the same as the area code (718) of his hometown. "I can always remember rapping," he says. Gist still has a Fisher Price recording of himself freestyling when he was five years old on the topic of the movie "Coming to America." Gist grew up around a lot of violence but was never ensnared by the negative surroundings. He attributes his faith, his family, and his love for writing, poetry, rhyme, and rhythm as the safeguards from trouble.

The Arthologist has broken out into the music scene of New York City. His performances have ranged from live shows at urban hang suites like club Speed to appearances on the studio of the popular BET Music Video program "106 and Park". He is a relentless entertainer, prepared to share his talent with any audience willing to listen.

Gist prides himself on writing his own lyrics. His poignant message is matched only by his electrifying stage presence. He cites Nas as his biggest influence and life as his primary inspiration.
