"SQ Soundcloud Showcase: March – Part #1"

Another track that would be easy to throw the word “haunting” at, “Hollywood Experience” has a sombre, melancholy feeling that would see it at home in an old tavern, perhaps being played by individuals that only Derek Accorah types would be able to “see”. Simple but musically and vocally rich for the ears, “Hollywood Experience” is deeper than most songs and is easy to get lost in. - SQ Magazine

Bio

Arthur and The Irrational are Birte Paulsen (guitar and vocals) and Kate Holder (cello and vocals). Inspired in part by Folk, Chansonand Jazz, their music is haunting and melancholic - the melodies are bitter sweet, the vocals heartbreakingly delicate and fragile but equally powerful and moving.
With intensely personal lyrics that evoke images of smoky bars and lonely hearts, their music has the eccentric charm of Tom Waits combined with the subtle beauty and intensity of female vocalists such as Laura Marling or Beth Gibbons (Portishead).

Birte Paulsen wrote her first song when she was 13. At the age of 20 she packed her bags and moved to Los Angeles where she spent several years playing coffee houses and recording a couple of albums. She emerged as a mature songwriter with a lot of stories to tell.

Arthur and The Irrational have been making a name for themselves around the South East of the UK, coming second in The Sussex Music Awards 2010, playing such prestigious Brighton venues such as The Prince Albert, The Brunswick and The Latest Music Bar as well as Brighton Live Festival. The duo has been getting some radio airplay as well.
