"Rocket Room November 21st 2009"

Recent Next Big Thing finalists Art In Algebra were up next and the young but experienced band clearly know how to work a crowd. Their diverse range of Indie-Pop numbers got the dance floor warmed up and displaying some talent they even played a promising new song they finished just the night before. Having just recorded some tracks at Soundbaker Studios, definitely one to look out for. - Drum Media

"Next Big Thing state final 2009"

Up next Art in Algebra played hard-to-define yet accessible contemporary rock.
If you can imagine the soundtrack to a coming of age moment in a successful TV series, you might be getting close
The comforting, competent and very confident voice of an engaging frontman spoke of a wild ride and a band humbly stoked to be appreciated by audience and industry
they thoroughly deserved their place in the final!

Bio

Art In Algebra have been out and about for somewhere between 1-2 years now.

During May-July last year we took part in the Next Big Thing Competition we were lucky enough to get a wildcard and make it into the top 7.
We then were asked to support Adelaide band No Through Road on the WA leg of their national album tour in late july.
A month later we released a self-produced/recorded at home/labour of love demo disc to a packed crowd at one of our favourite old haunts the Swan Basement.
The band recently finished demoing a bunch of new songs and went into the studio to record a single for the next big thing compilation due out early this year.

To add to this in our time we have been very fortunate to be asked to play on bills which have seen us share the stage with the likes of: Cut Of Your Hands (NZ) End of Fashion, Little Red(Vic), No Through Road(SA) etc...

Having known each other for years, made music in many different shapes and forms and played countless shows together this is our conclusion:

We know the idea of a band is pretty straight forward: people + music
We also know there are so many things that can complicate that idea
We're doing our best to keep it simple and get it right…

…also if sincere music filled with passion and sentiment is your kind of thing we may just win you over while we’re at it!

Thanks for listening in.
