BandHip HopReggae

Hip-hop, indie rock, reggae, electronica, acoustic, and more are combined to create Artless’s unique musical blend. Matt Coffay, Nik Ritchie and Hans Hall round out the group's core, along with guest artists who contribute to a genuinely original sound that appeals to fans of any genre.

Artless, a fusion of indie rock, hip-hop, trip-hop, reggae, electronica, acoustic, glitch, and more, began as a trio in 2003. Members Matt Coffay, Nik Ritchie and Hans Hall--all long-time friends and members of other groups--began to collaborate over long distances through e-mail. Many of their songs are several years in the making, with each member adding some important component to a track and sending it off to the others to await their input. They soon realized that they were doing something truly unique, and decided to get together in the studio.

Since then, Artless has become one of the most inventive groups in America. Their mixing of different genres makes for an original listening experience, with music in the style of Radiohead, Gorillaz, Gnarls Barkley, Massive Attack, DJ Shadow, Guided by Voices, and others.

Artless features a number of guest artists who contribute to both their recordings and live shows in order to round out the range of genres drawn from. Guest artists include New Jersey and Orlando, FL M.C.s J-Kroaz and Many V.E.R.S.E.S., indie rockers Lloyd Handy and Mike Perkins, and more.
