""Jazz at the Balcony""

"A heart attack earlier this month sent the Balcony Club's long time Jazz/Blues pianist Big Al Dupree on to his reward but last weekend, the music at the Balcony in Lakewood was as good as the memories of Big Al.
Sax Man Joseph Vincelli and Fleuglehorn player, Freddie Jones were in a ...jam session with Pyramid Room pianist Arthur Riddles and rather than the Standards they usually trot out for the customers, they played straight ahead jazz and gave a show that would have fit Austin's famous 6th St. music scene." Alan Peppard - Alan Peppard / The Dallas Morning News

"Arthur Riddles looks straight ahead to Sunday Nights!"

"It's late for a Sunday night, 10:30ish, but the cocktail sipping crowd at the Balcony Club is just getting started. Near the entrance, the Arthur Riddles Quartet is set up in a tight area around the club's piano.
The group rolls thru Charlie Parker's "Billies' Bounce." The quartet's exact timing and fluidity seem to make the crowd drunk with bliss. They're laughing. They're tapping their fingers on the tabletops. Maybe it's the booze, but for a Sunday, when most people are psyching themselves up for the work week, this group is almost having too much fun!" - Mike Emery

Bio

ART Music has stayed active in the Southwest Jazz and Reggae scene for the past 25 years, as the first ever band booked at Deep Ellum's 500 Cafe, a part of the 80's Deep Ellum revival including seminal D.E. clubs the Prophet Bar, Theatre Gallery, Club Dada, Clearview, and Exodus w/ my "world beat" jazz group "No Parking", as a member of Deep Ellum Reggae Rockers, "Da Nu Man" then as founding member (and Mgr.) of the legendary "Leroy Shakespeare and Ship of Vibes",. More recently, I have stayed very busy as a solo pianist and leader of my own jazz trio as well as reuniting with Leroy and fellow S.O.V. bandmates Dave Burris, Tenor Sax, and SingKumba for a series of shows in Austin, OKC and DFW. We recently headlined a "Royal Rack Reunion Show" at House of Blues, and opened up for the "Mighty Diamonds" at Austin's famed Flamingo Cantina and Freddie McGregor this past Summer at the DFW "Jamaican Independence Day" Festival!! On the Jazz side, 2012 found me at Visual Edge Studio recording a 12 song CD project w/ my Trio and Percussionist Duriye + special guest saxman Aaron Irwinsky which was released in the Fall of 2013.
