Bio

Art Sherrod Jr was born and reared in the small town of Palestine, Texas. Like most artists his introduction to music began at the age of five singing in the church. By the age of 13, Art had joined the Junior High School band and started playing the saxophone. By high school graduation, he had received numerous rewards and had been recognized as an All-Area, All Region, and All-State Alto, Tenor and Baritone Saxophonist. He was also an alternate to the McDonalds All-American Band. Some of Art's early music inspirations include Cannonball Adderly, Gerald Albright, Kirk Whalum, Kim Waters and David Sanborn.

Although Art did study music in college, music remained embedded in his heart and soul. In 1996 he decided to reignite a most sincere focus on his first love - - MUSIC - - PLAYING THE SAX. He began spending more and more time playing with local bands as well as in churches.

In 2003 Art decided to step out on his faith and pursue a career as a solo artist. He then managed to perform and co-headline with some of the industrys greats and well known artists such as Chuck Loeb, Marion Meadows, Roy Ayers, Everette Harp, Slim Man, Randy Scott, Phil Perry, Michael Henderson, Najee, Jean Carne, Cuba Gooding (of The Main Ingredient), and a host of others. He has also opened for the legendary Boney James and Euge Groove. He has performed in the Brazilian-American Jazz Festival in Rio de Janeiro, The Capital Jazz Festival, The Beantown Jazz Festival, Friday's At Sunset International Music Festival, the TSOP Club in Atlantic City, NJ, Blues Alley Jazz nightclub, Toads Place in New Haven, Connecticut and several "Smooth Night Out" functions hosted by Clear Channel Smooth Jazz radio stations.

Art remains active with his community by working with churches, the MS Society, and Progressive Horizons (an organization that works with foster children, mentally and physically challenged individuals). Art's says: "I want to give while I can. I don't want to experience a tragedy before I decide to do my part."

Art released his debut CD titled "All 4 Love" in January 2005, which quickly followed with a live CD and DVD project titled "Art Sherrod Jr. Live". Art is currently working on his second CD due to release in the summer of 2007.
