Bio

A provocative blend of poetic reggae and experimental styles with a passion for positive lyricism at their core. An independent and openly political artist, Aruba Red’s self-titled debut album which features Grammy award winning latin-jazz musicians Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez & Robby Ameen was featured by iTunes in their ‘Best of 2008’ category. The infectious track ‘Struggling’ featuring Reggae star Jah Mason, reached the top 10 playlist on Irie fm in Jamaica last Summer, the controversial ‘It’s Time Now’ was selected as ‘Hottest Homegrown Track’ on BBC Radio 1 in December and in February the innovative ‘Who Am I?’ was chosen as ‘Alternative Jam’ on BBC 1Xtra. Her collaboration with award winning Nitin Sawhney, a bass heavy, dub infused trip-hop track; ‘Last Train to Midnight’ has received regular rotation on radio. She has impressed audiences with her fiery acoustic set whilst touring with artists including Natty and Fat Freddy’s Drop as well as at Glastonbury Festival, the Love Music Hate Racism Carnival and The Royal Festival Hall. Miss Red has monthly residency at London’s Roundhouse with her own innovative new live music night ‘Strange Brew’ and hosted her own Strange Brew stage at this year’s Big Chill Festival, Aruba has also been awarded the prestigious title 'Emerging Artist In Residence' at London's Southbank Centre alongside artists including Riz MC and Nathan 'Flutebox' Lee. This traveling child whose influences are as diverse as Bob Marley and Immortal Technique, has been wondering the globe collecting vibes as she goes and is currently working on new material both in the UK and Jamaica where she has recorded a forthcoming smash with Jah Cure which is already causing quite a stir. With her uniquely brave style, a list of collaborations that would make many signed acts jealous and a host of established artists wanting to work with her throughout 2009, nothing looks set to stand in Miss Red’s way.
