"Best Cover Band"

What's the point of a cover band? Have a good time, hold the room past last call and, above all else, get paid. But as St. Louis' only Bruce Springsteen cover band, Asbury Park never comes across as mercenary, never phones it in, unless it's to dial up the socially conscious joy and sing-along release that's always been the point of a Springsteen show. The band doesn't just play the Boss; the six musicians, including Steve Leftridge on poised lead vocals and veteran Spencer Marquart on the Mighty Max smack, seem to live out the songs onstage, whether covering Darkness on the Edge of Town from start to finish or digging up the deep cuts even Bruce may have forgotten about.

Bio

Named the "Best Cover Band" in the Riverfront Times' "Best of St. Louis 2009" issue, Asbury Park is a versatile, six-piece group dedicated to playing the music from Bruce Springsteen’s entire career. From the sax-and-piano Jersey Shore sound of the 1970s-era E Street Band, to the soulful arena rock of Springsteen's ‘80s hits, to the acoustic folk-rock of Nebraska and The Ghost of Tom Joad, to the best of the Boss’s most recent work, the boys of Bruce have got it covered. With a repertoire of nearly one hundred Springsteen classics, Asbury Park brings the power, the magic, the mystery, and the ministry of Springsteen’s rock-and-roll to St. Louis.
