It's that blues-jazz Hip-Hop – soul sounds – inspired by the likes of Common, Black Star, Dilla, 9th Wonder and Dilated Peoples that bases the ASE x DEUCE sound.

Biography

When we started making music together it was two guys who shared a love for a certain genre and a small apartment in St. Catharines, ON. Separately, we had one piece of the puzzle each – two for Deuce, who produces some serious instros while regularly crushing the hooks – so, needless to say, everything just fit together perfectly when we began collaborating the summer of 2012.
ASE x DEUCE – representing FREE ILL – is Lucrative Write a.k.a. Pro-Deuce (Luke Archibald) and Ase Mor the Corner Store Rapper (Joel Perusse).
It's that blues-jazz Hip-Hop – soul sounds – inspired by the likes of Common, Black Star, Dilla, 9th Wonder and Dilated Peoples that bases the ASE x DEUCE sound. A lingering echo of nostalgia reverberates through the vocals as well as the beats, yet it isn't the "bring it back" vibe we looking for, instead we're trying to move the whole thing forward, pushing fresh music back into the public consciousness.

We want to make real connections with real people that don’t end when we get off stage. Music isn’t just a headphones thing: it’s a party drug, it’s comfort food, it can validate your philosophies or open your mind.

As fans of the golden era Boom Bap sound, we're hoping to connect with more fans and expand our family of music lovers and friends.
