The Afrikan Revolution is a supergroup led by multi-talented musician and educator Niles ‘Asheber’ Hailstones and features many of the most innovative and influential grassroots musicians and teachers ever gathered in one place within the UK.

The idea…. Asheber & The Afrikan Revolution represents a universal oneness in consciousness from an Afrikan base using both the creative arts and education as the core principles upon which all else is based. This unit of teachers, healers and performers are mission-bound to make a difference wherever they perform or serve, in order to shed some light on the inner powers we can all access and use to make healthy shifts in our world. Though “responsibility” is key, “fun” is never far behind!

The sound…. The ensemble brings to both the stage and studio a seamless and healing mixture of continental-wide Afrikan musical styles as well as elements of Reggae, Jazz, Soul, Blues, Hip-Hop, Funk and Spoken Word from the Diaspora.

The background: “walking like an elephant…!” The band began in 2007 but its roots are steeped in stoic traditions from ancient ages, and the holistic works of its members walk hand-in-hand with the evolution of Afrikan music in the Diaspora. Whenever this unit gathers to celebrate creativity and upliftment, infinite musical possibilities always arise.

The collaborations…. Members of the collective have a long history of interactions with scores of pivotal, international artists (and organisations) such as Fela Kuti, Toumani Diabaté, Misty In Roots, Oumou Sangaré Alton Ellis, U-Roy, Miriam Makeba, Ken Boothe, Gregory Isaacs, Leon Ware, The Cimarons, Studio One Band, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Hugh Masekela, Black Heroes in the Hall of Fame, Caron Wheeler, Soul ll Soul, Rico Rodriguez and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry.

Today…. Through the monthly residency (every 2nd Wednesday) at the renown Hootananny in Brixton, word of Asheber & The Afrikan Revolution’s pulsating, musical mission has spread rapidly, creating much anticipation for Asheber’s forthcoming debut album Time Traveller – Returning Thru The Door Of No Return. This recording features contributions from fellow foundation members such as Winston ‘Saxton’ Rose, Derek ‘Musicalist’ Johnson and our esteemed elder and master drummer Baba Adesose Wallace. Other special guests include legendary JB’s saxophonist ‘Pee Wee’ Ellis, Kora master Tunde Jegede and the late, great Egyptian flautist Maher Khairy.

After rapidly establishing a cultural impact in the U.K., these ambassadors of a modern Afrikan collective consciousness are now preparing to take the ‘word and the rhythm’ beyond British shores through upcoming, international engagements.
