Bio

Singer songwriter, Ashley Hancock, began his musical career at a brave age of 13, playing drums in a band with his two older brothers. Years later he united with the band, Broken Dolls, who were signed to Norman Cook's label, Southern Fried Records. Broken Dolls highlights include appearances on Jo Whileys' Radio One show, Glastonbury and the O2 Wireless Festival, along with supporting high profile artists such as Ian Brown. This exposure led to the bands debut self-titled album produced by Jim Abbiss (Arctic Monkeys, Editors) and Jagz Kooner (Primal Scream, Kasabian).

Despite having achieved success, the band decided to go their separate ways and Hancock then took the time to concentrate on writing his own compositions. He credits influences such as Jeff Buckley, Sigur Ros, Midlake and Radiohead for inspiring his 70’s folk rock sound.

Hancock’s release of his debut EP titled, Never The Less proves the growth and assertiveness he has gained over the last eight years. Each song is drawn from personal experience from the unpredictable relationships, both good and bad. The lyrics exhibit strength and vulnerability, exposing Hancock’s personal evolution. Fans can expect tracks filled with an honest, mature sound. His collaboration with Matt Shane (Flight of Conchords, Rosanne Cash) provides a breezy, weightless, folk sound that alludes to an English countryside theme woven throughout the album. Hancock is currently focused on preparing tour dates in support of the album.
