Bio

Ash Koley and her unique brand of quirky pop music have burst onto the Canadian music scene like a supernova to become one of the brightest lights the industry has seen in ages.

Ash is a 100% pop artist, but one who embraces influences from Elton John to Imogen Heap, Madonna to Feist.

Even as a pre-schooler, Ash felt destined to become a professional singer and began performing for family and friends in the living room of her Winnipeg home. Nothing unusual here - except for the astonishing voice and energy that was projecting from her tiny frame.

From an early age, Ash impressed everyone with her passion and commitment to succeed to the music business.

"I listened to and compared myself to the best singers growing up - like Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. I would play their songs over and over, trying to sing like them, and would always get so upset to the point of tears that I couldn't do it...I should have realized that not a lot of ten year olds can sing that like!"

Ash started working with musicians all over Winnipeg and began performing regularly, but it was a hook-up with award-winning songwriter and producer Phil Deschambault that really got the ball rolling. Deschambault immediately recognized the potential in the young singer and put her to work doing vocals on his demos.

Their "not-the-usual-pop" style clicked right away. Like a couple of crazed beatnik artists they started throwing influences like Abba, The Cardigans, Imogen Heap, Madonna and Scissor Sisters onto their canvas, and, combined with the undeniable chemistry that already existed, their vision started to take shape.

With the sessions going so well, Deschambault brought in Glen Willows of Burning Circus Artist Management, to have a listen. Willows, fresh off a major label deal with Inward Eye (Clive Davis' J Records imprint) and Sony/BMG worldwide, confirmed what Deschambault suspected; Ash Koley was something very special.

A diabolical plan was then hatched to break Ash globally. Songs were placed in movies like The Hottie and the Nottie with Paris Hilton, The Year of Getting to Know You with Jimmy Fallon and Sharon Stone. Ash and Phil began collaborating with writers and producers from EMI and other publishing companies, including Junior Sanchez (Madonna, Shakira), Marc Costanza (Len) and Robbie Roth (Disney).

Subsequently Phil and Ash have been courted by both American and European publishers. The quirky but catchy hybrid of Phil's no-rules approach to pop production and Ash’s velvety voice and emotional delivery is sure to be recognized as a breath of fresh air and fun in the current music biz.
