Ashley Elise

BandJazzSinger/Songwriter

Biography

Ashley Elise brings something quite dynamic and passionate to jazz singing. An artist intent on developing her own voice and concept, her adventurous spirit mesmerizes her audience as they wait to see what she'll do next. Whether we’re sharing a poignant ballad or she’s laying down a swift latin, her voice moves from whisper to powerhouse and back again. A singer contrasting intense rhythmic phrases with long drawn bending tones, she improvises with intelligence and inspiration. Her expansive range reveals many colors and is used much like an instrument.

Whether singing songs you already know or introducing you to her own music: She is a distinctive jazz force taking wing on the spirits of Betty Carter, Dianne Reeves, Barbra Streisand and Ella Fitzgerald.

Lyrics

You Hear My Thoughts

Written By: Ashley Elise

You hear my thoughts and know my heart. Before I do, you sense the truth. Never knew how cold and dirty I was 'til I met you.

Why can't you stay, moment of love? That you ask me; I ask myself! Don't want love passing us by - sometimes I forget how to be alive.

God, you gotta crack me open - I can't stay this way. God, you gotta crack me open; I'm losing! I know I love the very thought of him and me each day, but what is keeping me from him is driving me insane!

'Though I know where you'll find me, I don't want to show you the way. So, why don't I have another thrill to make you seem far away?

Wild Dream

Written By: Ashley Elise

And then,
My life became a wild dream.
Turned to a place I'd never been,
But one that I'd known of a while.

And to the dream
I prayed and I sang.
Hoping to hear, time and again,
rivers of laughter for all my days;
with you right here.
Love, we're not to fear.

Here In New York

Written By: Ashley Elise

I don't want to talk about it
'cause I can't explain it with words.
If there was a prayer, so perfect,
As to bring us together - me,
as an angel wrote it,
because it loved us so,
and wished us know what it know.

And you are inside me,
Here in New York, city of
strangers and dreams;
You are my love,
I tear out my insides,
sift through them - you watch -
so there's nothing between us.

When I look in your eyes, I know
God love us like I his only daughter
and you his only son.
Our togetherness is undeniable,
breathes through lifetimes,
and dreams of life are in you -
whatever we do...

You are inside me,
Here in New York, city of
strangers and dreams;
You are my love,
I tear out my insides,
sift through them - you watch -
so there's nothing between us.
