"No Pop "Princess" Here"

" ... Ashley's modesty is a fresh alternative to the all-too-dramatic nature of most pop stars today. Her relaxed nature, feel-good attitude and optimism add to her smooth vocals and flawless image. This girl is the whole package: brains, beauty AND talent!" - Soundline Magazine

Bio

Growing up in a small town often dwindles the hopes of aspiring artists and bands. But for Burlington-born, Smithville-raised Ashley Ross, living in a small town gave her all the tools she needed to perfect her vocal talent and make a grand entrance as an already-polished vocalist.

Ashley has performed for school and church choirs since elementary school. Upon moving to St. Catharines, she started singing for the Niagara Celebration Church - a televised church service - and even had the opportunity to perform with Gospel vocalist, Lynda Randle.

Ashley attends local shows to get a feel for the atmosphere and has been invited on stage, mid-show, by Niagara bands The Maddhatters and LMT Connection to perform songs and gain much-needed exposure.

The friends she has made over the past few years are the gasoline that fuel her desire to excel. Always chasing the pack, Ashley strives to keep up with the long-experienced and fiercely talented musicians she associates with.

Although Ashley is very shy and new to the studio, she has worked with Chris Crawford of the Marantz Project and Niagara Hiphop artist K-NO, laying out her first tracks and perfecting her originals. With support from friends, and fellow musicians Dave Rave, Chris and Leroy, she has been able to shed a little modesty, gain a little confidence and step forward into the limelight instead of standing in the shadows of her ex-boyfriend's success.

But Ashley isn't just a singer, or just a songwriter. After meeting backup dancer and hip hop recording artist - as well as local talent - Jordan Setacci, in 2006, her interest in dance and choreography spiked. Jordan has been a backup dancer on tours for Keshia Chante, Nelly Furtado, and has recorded with Lil Jon. His insight to the art provided Ashley with the motivation to learn all she can about it.

Ashley is always looking for fresh new ways to vamp up her show, and has been working with various choreographers such as Tamina Paris(So You Think You Can Dance Canada) of Nu Limit and enjoys being in the dance studio.

Performing and doing photoshoots are what make Ashley come alive, and allows her to engage the audience in her powerful and confident presence. Lately Ashley's image and talent has caught the attention of well known producer Brent Bodrug owner of B-Group music, (Nelly Furtado, Alanis Morisette) who has worked with numerous talent throught the music industry. With the aid of his creativity and studio talent, Ashley hopes to develop her image and sound in order to be signed to a major label just as the other artists he has worked with.

In a town known well for its local jazz and rock talents, it will be nice to see something new coming from Niagara. The best is yet to come!
