Bio
Ash Watson is an alternative/acoustic musician and producer born and raised on the South Coast of England. He started playing and writing as a teenager, delving into various musical genres. This evolution has taken him to a distinct writing style, integrating his perspective of the world with a passionate fusion of many eclectic influences from Nick Drake, John Martyn to Miles Davis, Hendrix and Led Zeppelin.
After hearing Ash’s work over a period of time, there is a rigid philosophy that is imperiously influential in his music. When asked he stated, “It is the feeling and emotive connection that distinguishes good music from something great, something that makes those electrical signals turn to waves of pure sensation”.
“Deep and dark is his request” poignant lyrics which sum up Watsons approach to music. He cites diverse influences from stylish artists such as Curtis Mayfield, Prince and Ben Harper, while a sense of grittiness gained from growing up during the Grunge and Nu Metal era. Watson’s music is a diverse mix, alternative and stripped down on a fundamental level, keeping warm between the likes of Bon Iver, Devendra Banhart and Ben Howard on the genres bookcase.
Having been playing music for over a decade, Watson has developed diversity from working with a variety of projects from downright dirty metal to dark electronic music. He produces, writes, records and performs all his work himself, delving into the multi instrumental realm. His intricate studio tunes are laid against the background of a raw man and his guitar style live performances. Strong soaring vocals and lazy, soulful guitar style make Watson an interesting live experience. Having made his London debut on the bill of a Finley Quaye show in summer 2012, while 2013 has seen a continous string of shows around the South of England, the future for Watson’s music is his own to create. Having just published his When The Feet Hit The Street demo on Last FM and Sound Cloud, punchy tunes like Once This is Over are combined with subtle songs such as Untitled. With an official release of the EP expected later in the year.
Asked what this eccentric character would like out of life, he states “being able to have fun with as many different people and playing music, that’s all”
