Renay's parents are Q-93's Uptown Angela and DJ Ro, and she's also the godchild of Twist's LBJ, but none of those connections help on the 'Idol stage.

Assata Renay is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana and mother of 5 year old daughter Ashtyn Michelle. The gift of music started with her late grandfather who was a blues guitarist. The musical lineage doesn’t stop there! Assata’s mother and father both settled into careers in the music industry as well.
Assata’s sound can be described as soulful, inspirational Rhythm & Blues, blending harmonies and emotions to create the unique sound that she takes pride in calling her own. Whether it’s experiencing a live show or listening to a record you will be taken on a journey of everyday life through the eyes of a NOLA girl. The Assata Renay experience is truly one of a kind filled with love, truth and the pursuit of happiness.
