Astronauta Pinguim

“Pink Rock”! With this self-titled new musical style, just not to be included in any other existing style, here comes Astronauta Pingüim with his second solo album, “Supersexxxysounds”. It was recorded between 2004 – just a few months after the release of his first solo album, the all instrumental “Petiscos: sabor churrasco” – and the begining of 2008, when he finally decided to conclude these new project. So, these new CD appears with the two different characteristics in Pinguim´s carrer. One is the fact that 13 of the 14 tracks on “Supersexxxysounds” are Pinguim´s own compositions (the only exception here is “A última Primevera de Max/Max´s last spring”, from the band Animales). The other characteristic is that there are four tracks on these album that contains lyrics and vocals, in which he uses a vintage instrument called vocoder to manipulate his voice.

All the instruments that you can hear throughout the album, except all the drums and the guitar in just one song, were played by Pinguim - besides beeing multi-instrumentist, Pinguim is the producer behind many independent brazilian bands´ albums. The drums on “Supersexxxysounds” were played by some special guests, like Ramiro Pissetti (Animales), Dante Space, Clayton Martin (Detetives and Cidadão Instigado), Jeff Molina (Daniel Belleza e os Corações em Furia) and Cristiano Krause (Jimi Joe and Julio Reny). Some other guests on these album are the uruguayans Baskeböller and Biyu, that recorded some funny words in Montevideo (Uruguay) and Luiz Calanca, that kindly lent his voice to create the pub ambience on the track “Que Borrachera”.

The album has influences of bands from various generations and different musical styles, going from Neu!, Can and Kraftwerk´s kraut-rock on “(We are) the Space Guys” and “Ana Paula Padrão” to artists like Madonna and New Order on “Guess who is coming to town” and sometimes moods that resemble artists like The Doors (“Pimenta Malagueta”), Devo (“Chiquenitos/oba-oba”) and Ennio Morricone (“...and Uma Thurman as Mia Wallace”). And it´s that musical mix that Pinguim calls PINK ROCK! Just listening to understand what exactly it is. Or not, as Caetano Veloso would say...
