"Astyplaz - Name your slippers (cd L Music)"

Having roots in both Greece and Australia, Astyplaz is a project that caught my attention instantly after just a few seconds, the voice, the production the sounds used, this is a real chef-d¢oeuvre for everyone that goes for the early work of bands such as Hooverphonic and Bel Canto in a more commercial version. Dioni, the singer of Astyplaz, is blessed with a more soulful voice though compared to Arnaert and Drecker giving the whole an extra strength. This surprising debut breaths freshness allover and I honestly was not surprised to learn this band acted as Greek support act for bands such as Covenant, Soft Cell or yet Faithless. Tracks to sit down for and enjoy include but are not limited to the opening track “Future science”, the catchy “Toybox”, and the delicious “What it feels like” and “Lost in the city” that both scream for a remix-club attack. The band has in the meantime started collaborating with Dejan Samardzic (Haujobb) and Endraum. If Astyplaz finds a suitable distribution in the rest of Europe they might just become a known band in and outside the scene. But who will seize this opportunity? Contact: www.astyplaz.com Note that the track “ Tous Les Jours ” will please all French speaking people who seem to have an excessive taste for electropop driven French vocalists. (BVI:9) BVI

Bio

Astyplaz is a neologism.
It is composed of the word 'asty' which in Ancient Greek means city and the French word 'plage' meaning beach. With this neologism, more or less a poetical metaphor of beach culture to the city is achieved (city beach). We were delighted to see this idea implemented in 'Paris-Plage 2003'. Astyplaz is an Athens based 4 piece electronica/ synth pop outfit.

In the autumn of 2005 Astyplaz debut album Name your Slippers was released (L Music - Canada). The Album title was inspired by the controversial author G.C. Lichtenberg (1742 - 1799 who was considered a forerunner of Surrealism).

Following the debut album release, a series of live concerts ensued playing alongside names such as Faithless (to a 5,000 strong crowd), Chemical Brothers, Soft Cell, DAF, Covenant, Haujobb, and Melotron.

November 2006 will find Astyplaz making their first official North America Tour (Canada-USA)!
(Montreal - Toronto - New York - New Jersey - Boston - Cleveland - Minneapolis - Chicago).

This tour makes Astyplaz the first Greek - English speaking (non metal) band to tour Canada and the U.S.

With the commencement of 2007 Astyplaz continue their live appearances, this time in Australia (Brisbane-Sydney-Melbourne).

This is the first time a Greek band with English lyrics has toured Australian cities.
