Lyrics

Shine

Written By: Michael Shirley-Donnelly

Here we are again
Breaking down barricades.
It’s so damn poetic
While going strong
That everything we thought
Could ever fall apart
Would burn down

Wait a minute
This is not what I was taught
Through all the misery brought

We sing it like there’s no one listenin’ around
Our spirits won’t get left underground
Does it matter? No one else here’s alive
I put way too much thought in this time

Try that one again?
I can’t believe it ever came from our mouths.
We were so young,
And all the crimes we’d steal
Can only blend and reveal
What’s right here.

Wait a minute,
Looks like nature’s catching up
Before we turn to dust

We sing it like there’s no one listenin’ around
No spirits torn, no world underground
Does it matter? No one else here’s alive.
Our radiance and swell of the light
Can shine on over, brighten somebody’s day
Y’never know who’s hiding dismay
Just sing it like there’s no one left here to care
And hide the notion of “worse for the wear”

Nature, nature
So contrary
Who’d have thought a chemical’d as soon as bury
All the light you can absorb in a day
Oh well.

Oh well.

No one cares anyway.
No one cares any
Way
Worth a shot
If honestly we tried our best I guess
That it’s safe
To call it quits
So turn the stage lights down
And take one last look around

Well wait a minute
I think they can heat it now
Through all the noise somehow

She’s singing like there’s no one listening around
The spirits won’t stay when there’s no sound
All that matters everyone here’s a live
With radiance and swell of the light
Shine it over brighten somebody’s day
We’ll burn your fear of dying away
Just sing it like there’s no one left here to care
When in truth there’s warmth everywhere.

Elæven

Written By: Michael Shirley-Donnelly

It’s kind of funny
How time has passed.
I’m curious about what you’ve been up to, where you’ve been
And who we’ve become.

The lights aren’t sunny.
There’s no wind in my grass.
My heart at the time empty, new frame of mind
Like I promised we’d last.

But lord knows, time can change anything permanent you thought you could arrange.
Love and lost philosophies, these memories they don’t belong to me.

And you once said you’d be trapped under my wings forever which is
Kind of funny considering how fast I tried to clip them.
Individually plucking out each feather must have given you such a crush like I never would believe.

Wanderlusting for something real.
Ashamed the the time can just turn around my mind and the promise I’d feel.

Lord knows that time can change anything permanent you thought you could arrange.
Love and lost philosophies, these memories they don’t belong to me.

And you once said you’d be trapped under my wings forever which is
Kind of funny considering how fast I tried to clip them.
Individually plucking out each feather must have given you such a crush like I never would believe.

Didn’t you say
Didn’t you say
Dead, and you say stay
(Though I never would)
Didn’t you say
Didn’t you say
Dead and you stayed?
Stayed through to walk away.

Draped In Velvet

Written By: Michael Shirley-Donnelly

Dearest failure,
I think a celebration is in order, so break out all the bottles you’d been saving up.
With our flag under one arm and yesterdays news nestled in the other, you’re smiling; your pearly whites could even pass as stars.

We are accidents, and really good at fakin’ it when we’re not covered; paint my reasons with somethin’ nice.
It’s a two way clause, a standard motion up in arms over just what to say. Escapin’ fate never seemed like such a challenge anyway.

Now I’m in deep shit with her, I said nasty things about her and now she’s out for blood this time.

It’s fake as you sell it.
Fake as you sell it.

Dearest failure, I think you’re congratulatin’ prematurely; smiling, my tepid yellows couldn’t pass for shit.
I’m in deep with her because I said nasty things about her, and now she’s out for blood this time.

That smile is just as fake as you sell it, but I’m still draped in velvet.
It’s fake as you sell it, but I’m still draped in velvet.
