"A Suffocating Signal-Sink or Swim E.P"

This band reminds me of looking at the Vagrant Records site during my typing classes in high school. Wait, why was I looking at the Vagrant Records site? Fuck. I didn't go to a school with a lot of sunny white folks, so it doesn't exactly represent my full high school experience. I'm envious of those who got to attend school with cute white girls with green shirts who are slowly developing muffintops over their tight black jeans and low tops. Yeah, this is definitely the type of "emo" or "pop-punk" that Makeoutclub kids loved back in the day, but with more sophisticated moments that remind me of False Cathedrals-era Elliott or a straightforward Bound Stems. I Definitly dug it.

Bio

A Suffocating Signal is an Indie/Pop-Punk band based out of Richmond, Virginia, that will instantly bring a smile to your face. Armed with a positive message and their energetic live shows, they are sure to be stuck in your head for days, weeks, months, years… possibly your entire life. Started originally in 2007, as a solo acoustic act by singer/guitarist Drew Vanlandingham (21), he soon learned he had started something bigger than he could handle on his own. From there, he recruited some of his best friends: Matt Singleton on bass (24), Chase Wade on guitar (20), Ashleigh Lumm on keys (21), and Ben Buckley on drums (22). Their fan base quickly grew and the demand for new music pushed them into the studio to meet their fans needs. In fall 2008, they entered Rock-It-Science Studio in Richmond, Virginia, to record what would become the “Sink or Swim E.P.” “I’ve never seen a band work so hard; each one of them is a machine and they won’t stop until they’ve gotten it perfect.”-Rick Maxwell. With the release of their new E.P. , they have seen exponential growth in their band. Within the month it was released, the “Sink or Swim E.P.” sold over 175 copies at shows on word of mouth alone. A Suffocating Signal has been played on popular and local radio stations Y101 and WRIR Richmond. In addition to local radio, they have begun to be played on college radio stations WXJM (James Madison University) and WMLU (Longwood University). You can also hear A Suffocating Signal on the internet radio station, “The Perch” (www.theperchonline.com).

In the coming months, the band will head out on its fourth east coast tour, then settle back into Richmond and continue writing a full length record. Their main goal is to find a label to help them put out the record while also touring to build a national fan base.
