AS WE ARE

MAD AS HELL about music since they were young ‘uns, five of Cleveland’s finest decided to form alt-rock band As We Are and launch into the proverbial stratosphere of rock and roll superstardom

Although the lads are old high-school buddies, they previously meddled around in other bands and only just recently formed As We Are. Both vocalist Rich Grewar (The Eighth Colour) and drummer Mark Henman (Resin Dogs, Afro Dizzi Act) still play in other bands, but both are quick to point out that As We Are is an entirely different entity, one that’s determined to stand independently on its own musical merits.

“It’s a beast of it’s own,” guitarist Ian Jones attests. “This band is pretty different from everyone else’s other stuff, so it’s quite easy to separate them.”

“It would be pretty obvious if we were to outright pinch bits and pieces from the songs the other bands write,” Grewar adds. “So you do have to think outside your own creative box to come up with ideas and sounds that solidify an As We Are song. The five of us are equally as excited about the potential this band has to do really well, so with that in mind we approach gigs and jamming with a strong focus.”

As We Are recently released their debut EP To Drown A Box, which was produced by Intercooler guitarist Darek Mudge.

“Considering we’d only played one gig together and had a handful of rehearsals before we went into the studio it was definitely a collective melting pot of ideas,” Grewar says of recording the EP.

“There’s plenty of studio hours under our belts, so the light bulbs over our heads were always going off at a rapid pace. It feels like we’ve taken that all important first step; we’re certainly stoked with the first entry in our discography.”

As We Are play The Living Room Saturday Mar 31. To Drown A Box out now on Baria Records.

Bio

Australian Experimental Rock, now UK based, 5 piece As We Are made their debut UK appearance in London’s infamous venue Monto Water Rats (Oasis, Katy Perry) late 2008, packing the main room within an inch of its life and instantly winning over the music savvy locals. Covering all corners of the country in the short time since, the band’s fan base is swelling. Plan-B Booking are now working with the Aussie 5 Piece and looking to turn 2009 on its head, have hooked the band up with shows that would make any artist salivate. Including the BRITISH F1 GRAND PRIX, the OKTOBERFEST in Munich and a host of some of the worlds’ most alluring events.

With the debut LP set to drop late 09, and first single 'Calling All Hands' (mixed by oz legend Magoo) already doing the rounds, As We Are innovatively craft hints of sample laden hooks woven with raw guitar driven energy, providing a noticeably distinct change from the predictable norm.
