"JAX - Honey"

JAX is an artist based in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. He developed a unique sound, which is mainly rooted in hip-hop, but also inspired by many other styles, such as R&B, emo, rock, and indie music, among other styles. His most recent release is a studio album titled Honey. This release starts off with a killer opener, Catching Feelings. The song kicks off with a killer guitar part, which actually makes me think of artists such as Mac DeMarco - adding a jazz vibe to a rock format. The beat kicks in in full blast, along with some smooth keys, adding a jazz and soul flair to this release. JAX has a distinctive lyrical flow, which makes me think of one of my favorite recent artists, the late great Mac Miller. What I love about this album is that it combines edgy and playful lyrics with introspective themes. JAX is a witty and charismatic artist who knows how to set the bar higher and really put so much depth into his songs. There are many exciting highlights here, but one of my favorite songs on this release is definitely Changed Up. I love how the song has somewhat of a trap vibe, while still retaining some extra melody and giving the audience more depth in terms of production quality. The song Gordan Ramsey is actually quite excellent as well. I love the melody, as well as the fact that the doubled vocals cover so much range in the hooks, only to let the verses be a little drier and in your face.

The closing number, Whassup is a perfect final statement for this album, combining gritty old-school samples with a melody that almost makes me think of a Marimba, or one of those tuned wooden percussion instruments, so to speak. I love the organic feel of this song and the fact that the lyrics are more personal, almost looking back on a previous relationship in hindsight, with a more honest outlook.

At the end of the day, this album definitely deserves your attention if you are a fan of great modern hip-hop with a unique twist. - thebandcampdiaries

"Genuine and enthralling, Jax satisfies us with his live session of "No Worries", a song taken from his album "Honey""

Jaxon “Jax” Booth is a rapper, singer and skateboarder from Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, capable of mixing different genres with comedic nuances in his music, offering a mellifluous hip-hop sound through which he tells stories that I could imagine set in small, suburban settings.

Having cultivated a passion for music during his teenage years, Jax has been releasing many basement records and a couple of mixtapes since the age of 15.

In 2019, with the help of his friend and collaborator Atay, he found his sound. The chemistry that developed from this artistic encounter has meant that together they recently released Honey, an album that, through nine songs, offers us an amazing roller coaster ride.

Spontaneous and sincere, with the flow rap of Honey Jax takes us by the hand and leads us through style digressions that vibrate between moody introspections to the soothing and relaxing atmospheres of the weekend. From jazz to rock, through trap and funky, the kaleidoscopic drifts of Honey are amazing shows, which pass through and around hip-hop. And the relevance and consistency with which the album ranges towards R&B or emo, too, has genuinely left us stunned.

In this rich heterogeneity, it may seem difficult to choose which track stands out among the others. For this reason, we tried to grasp that factor of authenticity and sincerity we mentioned in the title, that common thread that runs all throughout the album. We found a formidable representation of it on YouTube, in the video of the live session of No Worries that Jax recently released.

Perfectly immersed in the musical delivery that the piece prepares, it is above all here that we find all the naturalness and the distinctive feature of Jax‘s rap lyric flow. Rich and charismatic, with this performance Jax gives us an exciting salient experience, which captures and drags us.

We are confident that 2020 will be a great year for Jax and Atay. This is why we look forward to listening to what they have in store for us. - NOVA MUSIC BLOG

Bio

Atay & JAX are a new Nova Scotian hip hop group compiled of Adam
"Atay" Taylor of Spryfield and Jaxon "JAX" Booth of Lunenburg. In 2019
the duo began collaborating in the studio to create "Honey" a 9 song LP
that served as JAX's debut album and served up a mellow, alternative
hip-hop sound with comedic undertones and small-town stories. Atay
engineered, mixed, mastered, and featured on the record. The intention
was never to present as a duo, but when the album launched, the
chemistry in their performances was undeniable, and the fans demanded to
hear more. Atay & JAX quickly developed a reputation for their
gritty, high energy, punk-esque live performances. Footage from these
shows created major “FOMO” and on social media. People from all around
were showing up in surprising numbers to these campy church hall
concerts, whilst screaming the lyrics along with high accuracy. In 2020
Atay & JAX are launching their first album as a group.
