Bio
Atlal shares with the audience its wide knowledge on several music traditions from Arabia, a journey through the basics by the egiptian singer Oum Kaltoum (1904 1975) but also through original songs by the band.
Born in Ksar El Kébir al Marroc, Boughaleb Laarif is the musical director as well as a songwriter, performer and tale-teller. Atlal means in arabic monuments which contain history. In its repertoire we find references to traditional Moroccan music as well as Chaabi Music, Gnawa, Amazingha and Traditional Arabic Maqams from Lebanon, Siria, Iraq, Egypt, Libia and Tunise. Rich ancient melodies updated to Modern Oriental sonorities blended with spiritual chants of love and peace.
The Atlal project was born in France many years ago, bringing up succesful albums such as Racar (Atlal Records, 1999) and Musiques du Maghreb et de l'Orient (Atlal Records, 2003). During that period of time Boughaleb Laarif was foccused on other projects in Spain. Nevertheless, his devotion for Atlal made him return in 2008 and prepare a new album with the label Rosazul Discos.
Atlal is an open book which tells with music the history of a country, shining out the forgotten wrecks, and travelling through the arabian poems and melodies which take us to the magic and mystery of East.
