"Demolition - Atomic Fury, Three-Song EP"

When the rocking guitar licks ring out of the speakers at the opening of "Soul Shaker", the first track on Atomic Fury's latest three-song EP a song that no doubt will land on their next full length, you can tell this is a band that's perfectly named.
These are no ingenues to the local hard rock scene. Their 2003 self-titled full length set the stage for the artistic growth displayed on this recently recorded EP. "Soul Shaker" was recently featured on WBAB's popular "Homegrown" radio program, and with good reason; it's a unique track that belies the fact the band is only a trio - the sound is so full it's hard to believe that only three musicians came up with such an impressive groove.
This five-year-old Port Jefferson Station based band consists of Bob Schroeder, Andy Schroeder, and Dave Claeson, and it's hard not to be impressed with how the act has improved since their last recording. Good heavens, there's even horns and keyboards included here, which gives the (sonically excellent) recording a traditional hard rock feel instead of the usual "emo" claptrap too many young bands fall into. Andy Schroeder's lead vocals are surprisingly - and refreshingly - non-histrionic, while the capable rhythm section keeps things chugging along in a fashion that's worthy of the name "Atomic Fury."
"Love Ya Later," the keyboard-and-horns tune, sounds like the best bet as a single here, but "Black Cactus" offers an off-kilter time signature during the chorus that displays a more-than-casual grasp of the trio's musicianship. Unlike most young acts, these guys are capable of delivering hooks; like most young bands, however, lyrically things drift off into macho cock rock cliches more than once in a little while. Those things are sure to right themselves as the band continues to work, perform, and learn their songwriting craft.
Atomic Fury has been performing at such local hotspots as The Vintage Lounge, Bartinis, and The Zebra Club, and they display more than a little charisma and a lot of plain old show biz pizzazz. Give them two or three more years and they won't be stopped.

Bio

Atomic Fury is New York's roaring lion of two-fisted cool. A combustible combination of classic and modern rock, this rollicking three-piece powerhouse garners attention for their undeniable performances on stage and on their self-produced records. Atomic Fury's music has been described as classic Van Halen meets Stone Temple Pilots, with hints of old-school R&B.
Also known for making off the wall web-movies; Atomic Fury’s music video for their song "AM/FtheM", and their movie short, "Monsters Of Rock" are just two examples of the band’s sense of humor and refusal to sit still as entertainers. Atomic Fury has been accused of “having more than a little charisma and a lot of plain old show biz pizzazz.” (-Good Times Magazine)
