It may have been cold outside but the atmosphere was hot in Tidball’s for the January Winter Metal Fest. The club hosted six bands over two nights. I checked out the Saturday lineup, which included Atomic Pimp Hand, Supafuzz, and Sixth Floor, along with just about as many bodies as could fit in the place. There were people crowding the floor, standing on the stairs, and hanging over the rafters to get a good view. One thing that was no problem was hearing the music, as this was no place for the faint-hearted; the music was loud, hard, rocking, and just kept on coming all night, just the way we all liked it.

Atomic Pimp Hand opened up the show. The band, which includes Leslie Wyatt on vocals, Wade England on guitar, Jimmy Favorman on bass, and Andy Houchens on drums, just looks, feels, and sounds like a heavy metal band. Visually, there’s plenty of black, and lead singer Wyatt stands in stark contrast to his 3 other similarly-looking band mates (do all guys with shaved heads look the same?). His vocals are nice and deep for the most part, with yelling, volume, and emphasis added throughout. England’s guitar provides the metal, being full of power chords and to-the-point lead licks. And the rhythm section of Favorman and Houchens provide the heaviness, keeping a relentless beat and energy that gets you head banging. Check out their MySpace ( where they have some of their songs streaming. Hopefully we’ll see more of these guys in Bowling Green, and if we do, go check them out. - The Amplifier

Atomic Pimp Hand was born in a basement in Glasgow, KY. Andy Houchens (Noisebloc, Jhelom, Fat Mouth Mojo) and Wade England (Gear, Sixth Floor, Fear of Silence, Stutterbox, Fat Mouth Mojo) had been jamming in a blues rock band called Fat Mouth Mojo and discovered that they both had a desire to get back to their heavy roots. Andy just so happened to know a great singer, Leslie Wyatt (Mr. Nasty), so he made a phone call and Wade just happened to know a rock solid bass player, Jimmy Faverman (Fear of Silence, Org, Randy Watson) so he made a phone call as well. A week later they got together in Wade's basement studio and a heavy, melodic, ecleptic band was born. Atomic Pimp Hand has been influenced by a list of bands and artists that is too long to list. The one thing that they all have in common is that they love playing music and they have a great time doing it. Look for Atomic Pimp Hand at a venue near you. Be ready for a massive pimp slap to the face and some heavy rock!
